Did he say that? Or did you assume that was what he meant? Did you get your hopes up that we would have a $7 million coach and now you're pissed because we have $3 million dollar coach.

He said what we needed was a coach that would put us in place to win championships. He also said we had resources to pay for that but money was not the tell all. He said there were plenty of people that had spent lots of money and still didn't win.

Then the speculating began and people who didn't know a damn thing started getting their names out their by putting their speculations out there and pretty soon everyone had decided it had to be Tressel.

Eichorst actually never said a word about what he was going to hire.

Everyone needs to back it down a notch and give the guy a chance. And quit slandering a guy who at this point did nothing but what was needed and something Nebraska's hero was not willing to do.

Didn't he say he pretty much was looking at a slam dunk hire? Riley isn't a slam dunk hire.

WTF does that have to do with what you said. You said he brought a pro offense and it didn't work.

Hint: Because a guy was a pro coach doesn't mean he ran a pro offense.

I realize this, but he does have a passing offense. look out now!

Didn't he say he pretty much was looking at a slam dunk hire? Riley isn't a slam dunk hire.

First he said now he pretty much said it? Can you point me to where he "pretty much said it" Cause what i got is;

But whenever I evaluate a head coach, I consider a number of factors both on and off the field beyond the outcomes of games. Let me say this. The people of Nebraska deserve not only high standards and expectations, but they deserve seeing our people and our teams reach them. I indicated during my introductory press conference that we will compete for Big Ten and national championships, and we will do so with class, integrity, sportsmanship and with a commitment to our student-athletes. I believe the action taken today is in line with that vision.

“As I said, I’m not going to speculate about the search process moving forward, the characteristics or the people. Up to this point, my total focus has been on this program and our young men. I don’t want to do a disservice to them by thinking about what’s coming next already. I want to do the right thing by this staff, by these players and their families. There will be a time in earnest later tonight for me to start thinking about the next leader of our program. I don’t want to get into that right now.”

“What I would verbalize is what I already said. We have high standards and expectations, and that’s to play championship football. Whatever record puts us in position to win a championship, I’m good with.”

“I am very blessed to be here at the University of Nebraska. We will do what is necessary to compete at the highest level. I have said this before, resources are not the question here at Nebraska. That does not mean we are not going to be responsible. I have seen people spend a lot of money and not do very much winning. We are going to get it right at the end of the day.”

“Number one, I think we are doing that right now, and number two, yes. We do what is necessary and reasonable, and I think the evidence is proof of that.”

Is there anything in there saying he was going to hire a "slam dunk" which by your definition had to be a big name like Tressel or something.

He hasn't promised anyone anything except a team that will compete fro championships so before you go calling him a liar you have got to wait and see. Anything else is just talking out of your ass.

That is actually just fluff lingo.

In theory ALL teams are "competing for championships" to begin the season.

I realize this, but he does have a passing offense. look out now!

A west coast offense if a variation of the spread. One might say the spread was birthed out of it. It relies on short horizontal passes to spread oout the defense rather than using the run to open up the pass it uses horizontal passes to open up deep passing lanes.

A traditional pro style offense uses running backs (think we might have a couple of those who are good) and a stout offensive line (I remember when we had one of those) to open up the passing game.

Not the same. And why will it work?

Stanton, Newby, Cross, DPE, Westie, and holy shit we might even use tight ends and full backs.

Not saying west coast couldn't work with the right coach and players but not the same zorbie, not the same.

Does that mean he promised a "slam dunk"? My point wasn't about what he promised. It was about what he didn't promise and what Zorb was saying he lied about.

No, but I could see where people were misled in expectations by his rhetoric.

There should be plenty of money, bells, and whistles for assistants. Something he likely didn't have at Oregon St.

I will once again say that Snyder didn't have any of those things when he turned K. State around. They were literally the worst team "all-time" in CFB when he took over down there. Not only did he win, he won consistently. Amazing what can be done by someone who can put all of the pieces together and get everybody motivated and lined up properly.

I do mean consistently, not pulling an upset once in a while "look what we did" kind of stuff.

I am giving you the benefit of doubt on this one as it is still the morning and you could be using a smartphone, and smartphones do some really dumb things. But from that post, grammar is not a strength.

It should be pretty obvious that Bo wasn't a yes man, and I've thought that before Eichorst, Pederson's cousin got here.

And yes Riley may just be a yes man.
-------
I suppose you think TO was a yes man too. Your right Bo wasn't a yes man he was a divisionist. I truly believe over the course of his tenure, he lost us a couple of games because of his sideline temper.

I am pretty sure all of Husker Nation agrees on this. As did a lot of the Board of Regents, Eichorst, Perlman, and I am willing to bet Osborne did to.

This was the cause of a handful of games. Also, I never thought of TO as being a yes man.

To quote Mike Riley "We didn't score enough points."

Mike Riley's asst coaches

Pick any you think are worthy. My answer NONE

Oregon State Assistant coaches

OC John Garrett
Running Backs Chris Brasfield
Wide Receivers Brent Brennan
Offensive Line Mike Cavanaugh

DC Mark Banker
Linebackers Trent Bray
Defensive Backs Rod Perry
Defensive Line Joe Seumalo

Special Teams Bruce Read

Total Offense 70
Rushing Offense 109
Passing Offense 31
Scoring Offense 85
3rd down conversion 116
4th down conversion 98
red zone offense 86
first downs 65

Total defense 76
Rushing Defense 56
Passing defense 90
Scoring defense 95
red zone defense 90
first downs allowed 91

Penalties per game 122 (this looks like a bad thing)
Penalty yards per game 119 (this looks like a bad thing)
Turnovers 37 (this looks like a good thing)

BTW, Nebraska's worst team statistic category is passing with a rank of 90th. Oregon State has nine statistic categories of 90 or worse.

I listened to quite a few minutes of his presser and he did say somewhere in there that he was going to make the right hire, or get it right. That to me pretty much means a slam dunk. I don't know how anyone could think he meant something other than that. A below average hire is someone who has had 3 losing seasons within the last 5 years. That clearly isn't the right hire, but what do I know.

I noticed other posters were replying to some of my posts. Tell them to not reply to my posts then. Problem solved, because there's less replies from me back to them. It isn't a one way street here, irule.
