Sure about that?

February 2016: Frustrated Alabama recruit decommits due to grayshirt request

Paul Myerberg of USA Today:

Schools use the grayshirt to add recruits without sacrificing scholarship numbers. Though a grayshirt graduates at the same time as other prospects, delaying the player’s enrollment allows a program to count that scholarship offer toward the following season’s total — making the grayshirt a helpful tool for those programs who tend to over-sign recruits.

But [Riley] Cole noted that the late date of Alabama’s asking him to sit out a semester — he said it occurred just a few days before signing day — wasn’t going to fly, hence his decision to move on to another option.

Yes, I'm sure about that since it's exactly what your article says. He chose not to take it.

And that article was bullshit anyway as I remember.

It's new in terms of people crying about Alabama.

And I don't see where it's says everyone is being offered one. He is saying all schools will offer them.

At any rate, it doesn't mean shit. I've never heard of anyone actually having their scholarships pulled, except for 5th year seniors who have already graduated. Kids transfer when they get passed on the depth chart, sometimes 4 games into a season apparently.
If its a 5th year senior the coach held up his end and should never be an issue. Its those that are not 5th year that are the discussion.

Kids take greyshirts by choice. It's not like they had their offers pulled right before signing day or anything.

This is what you said. The article directly contradicts this statement.

None of it is an issue for me. Anyone that is hurt and unable to play gets a medical. Anyone else is able to continue their education at other schools.

Meanwhile, the number of scholarships available are maxed out, and another kid will take their spot, so it gives better opportunities to more people.

If people are really so worried about giving kids opportunity and such, they should just not limit scholarships at all. Then they can just sit on the bench and even more kids in the country will get scholarships.

Well, so far, all of Michigan's transfers have been GRADUATE transfers.

A delayed enrollment is not having an offer pulled. That kid was pretty stupid in the end because he would have been on the team that summer anyway and we ended up giving a walkon a scholarship. I think he ended up at UAB or something like that.

Telling the kid you don't want them at all, the way Harbaugh did, is pulling an offer.

But, of course, we were talking about offering a grayshirt a few days before signing day, which you declared Alabama did not do.

It was known to him long before then as a possibility.

He ended up at South Alabama.

Puh-lease, let's not pretend Alabama has not done this to recruits or that Saban doesn't use other "tools" at his disposal to get rid of players taking up space on his roster. Just stop.

According to Michigan fans, he does not.

What does this have to do with Michigan fans? I'm willing to stipulate that Jim Harbaugh also uses all the "tools" at his disposal--as does every other major college football coach, @ellupo. I personally don't like such practices. Saban is not "holier than thou." Stop trying to pretend he is.

You may want to educate yourself of Ondre Pipkins. A former Michigan player who Harbaugh tried to force a medical hardship on who is currently a Texas Tech junior.

You just couldn't resist being snarky even when current events at Michigan State suggest it might not be a good idea.
No, I couldn't resist being snarky. But that picture is me being snarky at myself for wandering into a conversation I wasn't a part of. You can imagine the shit I put my wife through because I am not any different in real life.
