Jerry will beat his chest when Micah becomes the highest paid non QB. This deal should have been done months ago
If you just take Dak, if they sign him early on it's gonna be $52-53M max. With Micah, he literally said it wasn't going to take "$40M or something" early on. $35-36M would have done it. Dak is now $60M, Micah will be $41-42M, but likely $45M by the time Jerry pays him

Of all his dumb comments one of the dumbest was “I’d rather pay more and get it right”

I bet Charlotte could do a better job of negotiating on her first try. Heck we would have been better off if we just gave him a contract in December and asked him to fill in the amount.. even Micah’s agent wouldn’t have imagined $42M plus was in their future at that point

And we still have fans who put their faith in Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum to accomplish anything…

I started over at ESPN in 2004, and came here in 2013. Twenty plus years and I don't recall any cowboy fan with more than 20 posts ever express faith in jerry.

I did. But that was looong gone.
My was Jerry the Owner needs to fire Jerry the GM
And I still disagree with those saying Jerry cares about money more than winning. If this was true the team wouldn't have cap concerns yearly and a lot of past players would never have gotten paid by Jerry. His problem is mishandling contracts.

That might have been the case for Jerry once, but I believe Stephen has brought him over to caring more about money. The younger version of Jerry would have made the same type of salary cap moves the Eagles have made the last 10-15 years, using cash up front to create more cap space and spend the money every year that it takes to win, not every three or four years

I still see this team at the CAP Ceiling every year.
It's not that they notbspending, they just aren't spending wisely.

Jerry can make 20 billion off of the team, he just can't spend more than the cap allows.

Think about it this way. If Dallas had won another Super Bowl or two over the last 20 years, don't you think it would increase the teams value, therefore given The Jones even more money.

I'll say this directly Jerry and company are not being cheap when it comes to spending
Hell there were a few years they should have went cheap, but their EGOs wouldn't allow that.

Overpaying stars because they wait a year too late to sign them is their biggest issue. And they have had a great offseason this year. But last years disgraceful offseason had nothing to do with cap space IMO

After Micah signs (assuming Micah signs?) they will have over $40M in cap space. They also rolled over the 7th highest amount from last year (almost $19M) so they didn't spend it then either

Exactly.
What was the famous Jerry quote about the cap? "You wouldn't believe the check i would write if it helped us win a Super Bowl". They have had a good offseason, but it's a winning season offseason, not serious about contending for a Title offseason. We are still light at corner, to the point of moving Bland inside. All we had to do was pay Jourdan Lewis. We are hoping Guyton works out, if he doesn't, it's Asim Richards at the 2nd most important position. An older ver for insurance wouldnt break the bank. A run plugging vet NT is not that costly instead of hoping Mazi improves or a 7th rounder can beat him out. Dowdle could have been retained for little more than we gave Williams. I love the Pickens trade, but why not go sign Amari Cooper for $8M and really rock and roll?
Sounds like a lot, but they could have done all that and still had $10M in space AFTER signing Micah. They dont want to spend the green

So next year will be the first they HAVE to release or redo contracts for cap purposes. ONE season of being in a decent cap position is a FAR cry from not trying to win.

Ill say say it again Jerry spends money he just doesn't spend it wisely. Case in point is UKs post 190 above.

well...if nothing else we've established zero cowboy fans here have any faith in jerry & sons.
Trick question?

Jimmy said it in the late 90's, how jerry seeked the attention. Jimmy said way back then jerry told him he could make a 20M business deal and nobody knows, but Jimmy adds a player and it's discussed for 3 days. Jimmy said Jerry wanted in the front seat and it's very clear that hasn't changed.

most football fans down here never really liked jerry much. He shit on both Landry and Johnson.

We haven’t had a cap problem for a long time. We could easily clear up $20-30M more in cap space this year if we wanted to. We won’t have a cap problem next year either.

Nope. They don't spend enough money to get into trouble

Just moving money into the future is not fixing the cap, it's kicking the can down the road.

Philly has been kicking the can down the road for 10 years and their cap is in fine shape now and the next several years. The have a couple of Super Bowl wins to show for it. After 30 years if futility, it's time to kick a can.

Totally agree. But we don't have a problem to fix. That's the point I was trying to make. We are in a pretty good cap position and better than most teams. Plus, what matters is not whether you kick the can down the road, but how much you do it. The only contract we have really done that with in an extreme way is Dak's and that was just a really really bad contract. I would have taken more of a cap hit last year on that contract or this year and ticked away a lot of those cap $'s and saved the future years a little but they didn't. But even with his $74M cap hit next year we are in a good position and we will roll a lot of cap space into next year. I suspect Dak won't see the last year of his deal which will give us a complete reset in 2028, but we shall see.
