Ryan Fitzpatrick was named the week 1 starter after the final pre-season game.
Rosen was the better(statistically) QB throughout the pre-season for the Dolphins and late in camp. That being said, Flores has seemed to be leaning towards Fitzpatrick at all cost for several weeks now.
I am not made with the decision. As I have said before - the way I look at it is this:If Fitzpatrick starts we at least have experience at the position. If Fitzpatrick struggles, at least the Dolphins have Rosen to fall back on who, while young, provides upside and untapped talent. The Dolphins want to eventually see what they have in him - and this will give him a chance to watch and learn a little more for when the Dolphins turn to him for that ultimate test.
Had Rosen started and struggled - the Dolphins would have had to turn to Fitzpatrick, who has made a career out of coming in as a backup - not just for a number of games but seasons as a whole. But would have provided very little in terms of long term upside.
In the end, the Dolphins QB situation, in my opinion, is as stable as its been in many years. Given the experience of one guy and the upside with the other.
Up next, final roster decisions/practice-squad - keep an eye out for that info on this thread.
Feel free to post any if you find that is related to week 1 of the season for the Fins.
The games matter now, folks.
