You act like nothing happened in between.

Nov. 9-12, 2015: Powell police investigate a claim by Courtney Smith of menacing by stalking by Zach Smith. No charges are filed, but Zach Smith is issued a restraining order on Nov. 10. Courtney Smith files for divorce two days later.

Dec. 19, 2017: Zach Smith is given criminal trespass warning after reportedly making "harassment/threats" at 1:30 a.m. on Dec. 17. McMurphy reported he tried to enter Courtney Smith's residence. No files were charged.

May 12, 2018: Powell police cite Zach Smith with misdemeanor criminal trespass after a dispute with his wife. The two argued over where Zach Smith should have dropped off his son. McMurphy reported Smith's driving into the driveway of his ex-wife's apartment violated the 2015 warning.

MORE: OSU can't repeat same mistake with Meyer

July 18, 2018: Zach Smith appears in Delaware County Municipal Court for a pretrial hearing related to the May trespass charge. Court records show Smith pleaded not guilty to the charge on June 5.

July 20, 2018: Courtney Smith is granted an order of protection against her ex-husband that prohibits him from getting within 500 feet of her. The protective order was filed in Delaware County after she claimed she feared for her safety.

You dont' realize how easy it is to get a restraining order on someone do you? No actual criminal chargers were filed until 2018. Which appropriately was the final straw.

You don't realize that does not matter, thats your problem here.

The only question that matters is Did Urban follow proper protocol by contract/university standards when it came to reporting any knowings of such incident.

The question of should Zach Smith should have been fired in 2015 or not literally has nothing to do with Urban's continued employment with the university

You keep going back to do you disagree Smith should have been fired? I already answered that. And you already know my reply is yes. But you're completely ignoring the topic. Take the Smiths and Urban out of the equation as well. Do you think a reporter on social media should be held accountable for his actions. When he profited off of misinformation and false reports. Knowing full well the dangers of social media?

I don't think @socaljim242 understands. If Meyer obstructed an investigation, fire him ... if not, shut the fuck up and lets get down to some good old fashion ... I hate ohio state stuff. These people think because they don't like someone they should be fired or killed. This is getting beyond silly. I have defended ohio state so much I will be in the confessional for a long time and serve quite a bit of time in purgatory.

If a reporter gets a bad reputation he wont have a job long. Since smith got fired and Urbans on leave I'd say this reporter has done well for himself.
He was already fired from ESPN. He is choosing to work through social media because of the lack of rules an actual reporter has to follow. Which raises the question if a Social media reporter is paid for a Story containing False Information. Which we know to be true in McMurpheys case. Its in black and white through his edits. Should they be held accountable for these actions?Or are we supposed to crucify every coach, celebrity, public figure....Because we have Social Media Reporters using the system to bypass guidelines

I never thought I would defend OSU either :L But opening the door for immoral reporters. To falsify stories and get paid on social media. Is a nasty can of worms to open :L

I would absolutely agree with that.

There is nothing to even start the claims that Meyer obstructed any official investigation.

Ohio States AD knew of the event. The police themselves did nothing so they chose not to do anything either.

Of course Ohio State should do the police's job though......

Which leads to another question.

If its unquestionable gospel that Smith beat the crap out of his wife in 2015. Why are people more upset with Ohio State, than the police.....who have actual legal power, but chose to do nothing about it?

The guy isn't working for anyone so i don't know what you think you or anyone can do to him. If something he posted is false or misleading then people should post it like they have. Smiths never been arrested. But Smith has been fired so he's no choir boy and it just looks bad that you guys are harping on the reporter when Urban flat out lied himself and he's got a job where he's got to have some sort of accountability for his actions. One of those actions is keeping Smith all this time. You want to throw all that out because the reporter wrote Smith was arrested and he wasn't? Kinda like the glove doesn't fit so you must acquit. I'm not sure urban should be fired. you guys assume that. Maybe the AD has more culpability. But I do think he's had terrible judgment when it comes to this guy.

Imagine having to defend UCLA ... now multiply that by 10 and then square that number and that's how sick it makes me. But right is right and everyone is entitled to due process.

It's not that easy to get a guy for beating his wife or GF, first of all there's usually only them two as witnesses and when he's the sole breadwinner and the wife is really afraid of what could happen if she does go through with it. A lot of these men say if you ever do that I will come back and well you know what they say.

My point is that you're holding a Football Coach and a University to a hire standard than the actual keepers of the peace, which if you step back and re-examine it that way, seems rather ridiculous.

I'll even say that Smith should had been cut off a long time ago. Now the university is stuck in a Jerry Springer episode in these 2 loonies divorce (I have ZERO doubt Zach and Courtney are both unhinged, no that doesn't give him the right to beat her but that's how i'd call it from everything thats known) if you hang to close to a couple like that, you are more than likely to get sucked in to their crap. Completely avoidable situation all together.

Did Smith get fired? Yes
was he on probation? Unknown. That is an HR personnel matter.
Did Urban go up and lie to people with tape recorders and cameras rolling No
and is he not currently suspend? No
is there still doubt on who knew what at what time?
Does most every single person believe Smith is a POS even if he never got arrested? Yes
Not even Ohio State believes the guys clean because he's fired.
.
After all of that, I gave up.

Exactly you go through the proper channels. Unfortunately we need guidelines in regards to social media. So people like McMurphy are held accountable through the proper channels

Exactly ... I am retired after 30 years in law enforcement ... We have a duty to protect (not a policy - BIG difference). I don't want to judge because I don't know all (or even not many) of the facts.

If she indeed called the cops on Zach as much as claimed and the police still did nothing, one would assume there was nothing actionable there on their behalf. That of course is just an assumption though.

Not sure how many of the actual facts from the 15 incident we will get and yea at this point it's pretty much all hearsay and assumptions.

I don't know what people expected Ohio State to do anyway. Sure you could say FIRE HIM! But What is firing the guy going to do ultimately? Stop him from beating his wife if that was indeed the case? That seems to be the logic.

Some say you enable the behavior if there's no consequences.

I guess it depends on if youre okay with firing people from their jobs based on allegations alone, even if no charges are followed through with after the police look into it. I for one am not.

Didn't Ohio State do that? I'm guessing with input from people close to the situation. People get fired all the time with no police intervention especially in high profile jobs. I don't know why that's a surprise to you. That coach who crashed with his mistress on the bike . Didn't he get fired? Did he break actual laws or did he just make the school look bad.

Depends on the situation I guess. There is no obligation to fire anyone based on allegations with no police intervention. However some want to pretend it to be.

It sounds like this guy Smith caused enough waves to get canned. I haven;t heard anyone say he should still have his job.

I'm talking about Urban not Smith. Nobody is saying Smith should still have his job.
