Jeff Schultz has quite the poisoned pen...

The NHL is leaving a city that never really was given a chance. It’s going back to a city that it left 15 years ago and that has grown by about 60,000 people and a couple of doughnut shops since. They will be discussing this decision one day at business schools, right after the sections on Charles Ponzi and Enron.

Man, pretty bitter. Also referred to Calgary and Winnipeg as "outposts". Is that really necessary?

Yeah, after 2 tours, the NHL NEVER gave Atlanta a chance. No one wanted to buy them and keep them there. That speaks levels on it's own.

Does Jeff Schultz know what empty seats look like? Me thinks he has some issues and I wonder what he would have done if he owned the team.

None other than Pierre Elliotte Trudeau said "Edmonton is not the end of the world, but you can see it from there" (lol)

Really not necessary as most people already know Winnipeg is a pelt trading outpost. Also no need to jab at Tim Horton's which is an excellent establishment.

But seriously, doesn't the outcry of anger surprise you? I mean they're MADASFUCK. :lm:

Atlanta is a shitty sports town period ! The facts and numbers back it up. In sports size isnt everything. It's a big city so what !

L.A. is a hell of a lot bigger and the NFL does just fine financially without them. This guy is a full blown tool box.

Couple of nice tweets from Evander Kane - The kid is all right.

Thanks again. I will miss the great people and city of Atlanta.

I want to thank all the Thrahsers Fans that supported us in Atlanta for my two years there. Very unfortunate there will be no NHL hockey

This is a league that survives on franchise fees and relocation fees. It collected $80 million from Ted Turner for an expansion fee in 1997. (He joked in the Board of Governors meeting that followed that he could’ve saved $70 million by purchasing the Flames from Tom Cousins for $10 million. Nobody laughed.)

OK, that's kind of funny.

I kinda give the guy a pass today on being a bit pissed. Sounds to me like he was a genuine fan, so I understand.

He gets his facts wrong (or stretched at least) a couple times, but he does make some valid points.

Maybe a few of the shots at Winnipeg and Calgary were uncalled for, but I'm pretty sure I'd be saying the same kind of stuff in his shoes.

...um sorry Boss, but that isn't necessary
The Falcons, Hawks, and Braves do pretty nice. We are mediocre in attendance for each fanbase EXCEPT the Thrash. But not horrible...I'll try to find some stats.

I am happy with the team moving and saw it as inevitable so I am glad its done sooner rather than later and I am really happy for the fans of Winnipeg. However bitterness aside the writer has some points.

I would have liked to see the marker with a good team for a period of time instead of the constant rebuild they were in. Disingenuous ownership, bad GM led to no one wanting to stay there. So in a way I agree with him partially in that the franchise failed, not Atlanta. I understand the anger toward Bettman, he hasnt said much negative at all about the move but has fought tooth and nail to keep the Coyotes in Arizona.

I am just saying read the comments in the Jeff Schultz blog and fans are blaming the ownership for putting a crappy product on the ice. The Thrashers started out like gang busters this year and still played in front of a lot of empty seats. If you owned the team what would you do?

I am not blasting them just saying the comments are hypocritical saying they had a crappy product when they didn't. I watched Sabres games there and when the Sabres scored it sounded like a home game from the crowd reaction.

If you can't support a team that's winning you sure as hell won't support one that is mediocre.

But that happened all the time with that team and there was always a big collapse. If that happens frequently why would anyone expect last year to be different (spoiler alert- It wasn't) ?

With the exodus of players, with the same people who ran the team poorly for so long still involved with the team I do not blame the fans for not getting excited about a hot start.

Some markets with "great" fans can not attend games when the team is bad and its a because they are protesting the ownership or some such nonsense, but when a team in a "non hockey" market does poorly and fans don't attend games when the team is bad that's because they are bad fans.

I love the NHL but if I lived in Atlanta and was a fan of the Thrashers I am not sure how much of my money the team would get every year.

Then for the leagues sake it's best to move the team to a good hockey market (if they cannot find good local ownership) . I know what you are saying but it's hard to find owners for every team that are committed to winning...Shit, look at the Leafs !!! :happyshake:

Damn it! I was just watching the entire season on the DVR and was only up to mid-December. Here I thought Atlanta was going to take the division, Crosby was going to win the Ross by 50 points, and Philly was going to win the Cup!

Oh well, at least I can see how those other two play out.
