too bad for him... that does not change any part of my opinion of him... and remember, I used to love him, and I've always backed him.. this just boils me. I hope Michael shows he's not needed, they cut him, and no other team bends for his outrageous demands... (extremely unlikely I know, but it's so frustrating)

Couple of things - Lynch's career earnings if he plays out his contract will be about $50 million, which sounds like a lot. But he will have lost lost about 40% of that in taxes, leaving $30 million. Let's say he's spending somewhat wisely and keeping it around $1 million per year while he's playing (remember he has attorney's fees). So with that, and his agents' cuts, he would end up with around $20 million when his NFL career is over.

I don't think we'll see him coaching or in a broadcasting booth, and there's no reason to think he's a business or financial whiz, so these next couple of years might be essentially it for his income. Spread that $20 million over say the next fifty years of his life, and that gives him about $400,000 a year. Obviously that's enough for a nice life, but it's not obscene, especially considering he'll probably spend those fifty years dealing with pain.

On the other hand, if Michael turns out to be just as effective as Lynch, and Turbin is a solid backup, Lynch could easily be cut after this season and have trouble finding work as an aging, beat-up RB. That would drop his $20 million down to something like $17 million.

This is his last chance to make any significant improvement on those numbers.

Won't see me in a broadcast booth either. Was laid off from my job of 32 years in 2009 and now I'm making $16 an hour with no benefits. And I'm supporting a family of 3 on my lone income (since my wife can't work). The reality I have is that I'll most likely be working and dealing with my own aches and pains until I'm dead.

I realize this is the nature of professional sports, but it's what I hate about professional sports.

I'm with you on that Joe. But yes, they all deserve a real pity party. .... only $5 million a year, how can he possibly make it. That's more than most of us will see in an entire lifetime of work. But I've been told it's for the 'entertainment' value. .... hummm, would they be less entertaining at $2 mil a year ? Just saying. ... the product is the same at whatever price.

I'm with you on this as well. Lost over a year of work due to a heart problem, took a pay cut to get back in the biz, and now I'm busting my ass to make up for lost time. No empathy/sympathy for Lynch here.

And for what it's worth, I think you would be very interesting in a broadcast booth. ;)

I guess I fall in the other end of the spectrum. I earn anywhere from 40-60k a year depending on the tide of the construction industry. . But no one pays 500 a head to watch me wire a house. Nor do I have to keep my body in optimal shape in order to do my job. I feel they're worth every penny they can get.

Like I said, I know its the nature of the business. But I think they're eventually gonna price themselves out of the market. I can't afford to pay to go to a game.

The last Bears game I saw at Soldier Field was two seasons ago - my friend got the tickets free. The last Blackhawks game I saw at the United Center was in 2008. Again, tickets were freebies. And even the White Sox at the Cell in 2010, a friend happened to be the organist's farrier, who gave him 10 tickets as a gift for her final home game. That about sums up the last decade of live sporting events.

Then again, even the demolition derby at the local county fair might be too steep for my budget.

I agree totally on the average person being priced out of sporting events. The problem isn't just the tickets, the problem is that once you pay to get in the stadium they ass r*pe you for every concession you buy and won't let you bring your own food or drinks. I would rather watch from the comfort of my couch and drink my own liquor. I have been to a few Tampa Bay Rays games over the last few years, but honestly I'd rather watch football on TV anyway and when I want to go see a baseball game (which are better live in my opinion), I will go see one of the local minor league affiliates or go to a college baseball game.

I've seen the athlete salary debate a number times over the years and there is always a pro and con. I quite simply do not believe, and never will, that any are worth more to society than someone who serves to saves lives (doctors, firefighters, police, military). But until the common folks stop paying more and more for the 'product' the associated costs and salaries are what they are.
I really have nothing more on the subject.

Well. JD's 3 picks are still in limbo. And SP has threatened to hold out on his kicker with no time table set. It'll be long (and maybe not very aesthetic) since it's in text format, but here are the CONSENSUS rankings from both Suicide Drafts:

Anyone know anything or heard anything about Lynch's possible suspension? I can seem to find anything on it.

you can definitely see the RB value difference when you compare the two leagues like this Joe.

I really hope I'm right on Stacy as opposed to him almost falling out of the 3rd round in the S2 league.

I can assure you that if I hadn't gone RB, RB, he wouldn't have lasted past 28th in the B league draft, but I just couldn't justify going RB, RB, RB in a league that we start 3 WR's with no flex. I looked at Stacy in the 2nd round, but Arian Foster was still there, so it was hard not to go that route.
