The coaches that win multiple playoff games have one big thing on common:

The have a damn good franchise QB. How is Marvin doing in that area?

He had Palmer in 05 before the injury and it looked like we were on our way. Palmer got hurt, was never the same player and down went Marvin and his chances.

The comes Dalton, good enough to make the playoffs, but not good enough to win one with players going 20% harder and faster. Dalton doesn't know how to raise his game, therefore, not a franchise QB.

Marvin Lewis is not the issue. The lack of a franchise QB is the issue, plain and simple.

Yeah, and Marvin hasn't even won a single fucking playoff game..... Hell, Rex Ryan squeezed three or four playoff wins out of Mark Sanchez for fuck's sake. If Marvin was a good coach he would have won a playoff game -- He had top 10 defenses for 4 years straight with Zimmer on his staff. He had good offensive lines..... You'd figure if he had an ounce of coaching talent, he could have at least won one playoff game.

Didn't TJ Yates beat us?

Looking back on the Carson years, I think the 2005 season was more of a fluke than the norm. Sure Carson got hurt and he wasn't the same again, but don't forget the crazy amount of turnovers the defense had that year. And the defense didn't really have any good players on it.

Marvin is not a great coach, but he is not the problem. Our team has been good enough to win a playoff game or two with a somewhat competent QB. Problem is, we haven't had a competent QB even as good as Yates or even Sanchez for that matter. We have had Andy Dalton.

I am not a Marvin fan, but the great coaches are the ones that find their franchise QB. Everyone thinks Mike McCarthy is a great coach, but if he hadn't had Farve and then Rodgers, but rather a busted up Palmer and a 2nd round flop of a QB, Dalton, who different would McCarthy's career look?

It starts with the QB. That is all I have to say about that. Marvin can get bent, but no coach will win here without a franchise QB.

Bullshit. Dalton is much better than Yates and he's probably better than Sanchez.

Palmer was our starter at home in a playoff game in 2009.

Matt Shuab has won a playoff game in the last 3 seasons.

Stop forgiving Marvin.

2015: Marvin is the new Dalton

Marvin is a bottom 6 coach in the NFL.

Which is hard to do.... There are a lot of shitty coaches in the NFL.

I disagree. If Dalton was as good as Yates, he would have won a playoff game instead of looking like a deer caught in headlights when the prime time lights come on. Dalton may be better at 1 o'clock on Sunday than Yates, but when it comes to prime time he is no better than me out there throwing the football.

I suppose it is Marvin's fault that Dalton has like 1 TD pass and 6 INT's in those 4 playoff games. I suppose Marvin has complete control over what is happening on the field. I suppose his OC's (Gruden, Jackson) have zero say in what happens on offense during a game. Granted, Marvin can overwrite some pure boneheaded calls, like not throwing to Green the entire first half of a playoff game on purpose.

You give Lewis Aaron Rodgers, ONLY DIFFERENCE, and all of a sudden Marvin is looked to as the next legendary coach.

Get rid of Lewis for all I care. However, getting rid of the coach doesn't address the real issue on this team. So go ahead, get rid of him, but the next coach, he doesn't do any better while Dalton is his QB.

This is where coaches go to die. Marvin Lewis is just taking longer than other people to accomplish that feat.

Dalton's struggles are not completely on Marvin, but he can't be absolved from them either. Rex Ryan, Gary Kubiak and Mike McCoy all beat us without hardly passing the ball at all. They didn't need to because they came to play playoff defense -- Something we've never done even when we've had good defense. Marvin panicked the year he played the Jets.

It's been a mixture of both. When Dalton didn't kill the team, Marvin didn't have his finest moments coaching, and when Coaching might have done better, Dalton really laid an egg. They go hand in hand because we all know what we are getting with Dalton, but Marvin is standing by him. So, indirectly, he is sort of responsible for what happens with Dalton, for better or worse.

Oh well. Some will disagree, but watching 10-6 and at least getting to the playoffs is much better than 2-14 and 1st overall picks. At least when they are winning during the season it breaks up the time until we can bitch about the Reds.

you have to consider that Marvin has won plenty of playoff games, just not since becoming a Bengal.

That light at the end of the tunnel just got a little farther away

Well saddled with a new DC and OC LY...maybe they cut him some slack...1 yr kinda makes me think he's getting one last shot to get over the hump.

He's winning where no coach has really won before...he's even gotten MB to change a bit in some ways...as long as this team is making $$$ and not tanking in the regular season, Marvin has a life pass as the coach.

I hear ya...bar not set that high for him, huh.

From seeing the Bengals...not every week like you guys do, but enough to feel like you have a pulse on the team...Idk how much more Lewis can do when the QB puts up 150 yds in a playoff game. Of course I'm not saying anything you haven't heard before.

The Brown family will go back to losing and getting the #1 draft pick every year soon enough just to teach us a lesson that mediocrity=success.
