Not trolling on a Bengals board, but in my opinion extending Lewis, as well as not firing him 3 seasons ago, were huge mistakes.

Just going to play a little devil's advocate here...

I think most of us are on the same page that Lewis has done a solid job here. He came in, and helped to turn this franchise around. He got Brown to loosen the reigns a little bit, and actually did something that no other coach has been able to do: Win.

Now, that being said, much like I said with Dusty, he was the right guy at the right time. However, the time has changed. He's no longer the guy that this team needs. They need a coach that can take what this team has, and get them over the playoff hump and win an actual playoff game.

I think we can all agree, for the most part, on that.

However, what leads any of us to believe that this franchise, Brown, Katie, etc...what leads us to believe that they can make the next hire the correct one? I'm not so sure. I think that the next hire could see Brown not trust the coach as much, and the team is right back to 2002 (or whever it was) when Marvin first came on board and spent the next 8 years beating the drum.

So, while we can all look at this as a step backwards, away from what we want, is it really when you consider that this team will more than likely hire the worst possible guy, and watch this team back in the 90's hamster wheel.

(again, total devil's advocate....I think it's worth the chance, but again....)

The next coach is going to be Vance Joseph. They have all but said so

It's true -- A new coach would probably have a 1/5 chance of being good and that might be being generous. Look around the league, how many coaches actually turn out? How many go on to becoming coaches that win multiple playoff games with one franchise? Not many relative to the amount that are hired every season.

That said, the idea that we should hang on to Marvin because of what we once were is ridiculous...... Unless we all agree that we're okay with the 10-6 season and a first round loss.

Completely agree. Just bc Marvin is better than what we had is no reason for him to have job security for life.

The argument that it's a bad idea to fire Marvin because things were worse before he took over is the opitomy of cowardise. Nothing but a pathetic excuse from an incompetent, complacent, loser organization. Nothing new here folks.

The year before Marvin got here the Bengals picked Justin Smith, Chad Johnson, Rudi Johnson and TJ Houshmanzadeh in a single draft. Duke Tobin is responsible for building the Bengals back from the dead and Marvin gives them a ceiling as a one and done playoff team. Just my opinion.

I think I'd rather go back to being a laughingstock, then deal with this annual false hope

We all know these two truths, both of which are not up for debate:

1) Marvin Lewis should have been fired at least eight years ago

and

2) Marvin Lewis will never be fired...............
