I am not sure sending tough guys out to fight non fighters at the end of the game has a place like at the end of the Habs-Bruins game.

Boychuk going after Spacek who just couldnt back away fast enough.
Thornton going after Hamrlik is real fair.
McQuaid going after a prone Pacioretty with 35 seconds left was pretty stupid.

I guess it was 'to send a message' but the Bruins had won the game and already pushed the Habs around, I think the message was sent.

Also if Moen grabs an unwilling Ryder and starts hitting him I am not sure that really sends a message.

I see your point, but you can only poke a stick at a dog so many times before it bites back. I thought it was telling when after that game, some Habs writers and bloggers were wondering if they need to toughen up the team.

In the Bruins/Habs case, they are playing for the division lead, seem to face each other in the playoffs about once every three years or so, this was just part of the perpetual tug of war that the rivalry has.

Well after sleeping on it and watching the low lights again. I still dont see the punishment in suspending the AHL players the Isles brought up for this game. Further more I dont think there is a coach in the NHL that should have less respect around the league as Capuano. What a joke, he know his team is gabage so he makes some call ups to goon it up and hopes this creates a buzz and maybe sell tickets.

Le tang is a diving, faking scumbag, who has his share of dirty hits. The slash from Tavares was a penalty but Letang fakes it.

Never IN MY LIFE (11 years of playing competitive hockey and getting close to 30 years of watching it) have I seen a player start skating in circles because one of his legs was seriously hurt. What a joke!! If your leg is really hurt you just fall down. Go back to Stevie Y's knee completely locking up in the playoffs of '98 (I think) and he still makes generally a straight line to the bench.

LOL at Letang (the only Penguin I actually really dislike other than Cooke). He gets 9.9/10 for creativity, 0/10 for being a stand up hockey player.

I agree for the most part...Letang has to be careful with his physical play because he's certainly pushing the boundary (which I think is because he's still learning the physical play because he's only just started to use his body in play), and yes he does occasionally...well, enjoy drawing the penalties. But, in response to that specific slash. It came at the end of the period, and was a poorly placed one...I don't think he was trying to be dramatic there. Could've caught a nerve or something.

I think the writers would have been questioning the size and toughness of the team after that game even if the last 5 minutes had been scrap free. The Habs were pushed around all night.

Its not the end of the world, and it will only enhance the rivalry but I do not think the last 5 minutes of the game were examples of good fights in the league. I thought the last few minutes were kind of garbage.

Honestly I do not see a big difference between sending a fighter out after a non fighter or players who don't want to go and a cheap shot on the ice. They are both kind of cowardly.

No big deal, no one was hurt except for a few stitches Pyatt got from Colin Jrs elbow pad. Just my 2 cents.

And yet they still beat you down 9-3? Hmmmm...

WOW! Really?!?

Do you realize Haley had literally just finished his second fight of the nite, against talbot? He was supposed to be escorted off the ice by any of the officiating crew, except they let him skate all the way from the corner boards, across his blue line, the red line and all the way into the Pens end to.... fight a goalie.

A career goon from the AHL doesn't get to take liberties on a goal-tender. Unless said goalie is ron hextall, and it's 1982, this shit doesn't happen anymore. Godard will pay for his actions, but at least they were honorable. You don't let ahl thugs attack your goal-tender. Haley had no business being in another fight.
No excuse for the refs to not have control of a goon like that at the end of a fight.

To be honest I was playing devils advocate last night .A lot of pens fans were crying dirty and I was trying to point out both sides had their fair share of the dirt.I can understand why godard did what he did .but that doesn't make it any less dirty nor did it give him the right to take liberties on Haley from behind .If godard skated off the bench and wrapped Haley up then I would have had more respect for the situation.Point being this game was not a one way thugs fest on the isles behalf its an accumulation of several events over the past few games that finally broke free. The pens were just as involved as the isles.

If you seriously think the dirty play in last nights game was offset then you should watch baseball. The Pens did nothing remotely close to the Gillies and Haley BS. What Godard did was illegal but not to the extent of punching a guy skating away or punching a guy who is injured from you already elbowing them.

They were involved, but IMHO the dirty, bush league acts were largely coming from the Isles.

Go back and look at what set the scene for this... Talbot laid a hard, but un-penalized hit last week that the Isles took exception to. Then, Johnson and Ricky decided to dance... big surprise on how that ended.

So vengeance needs to be dealt out. OK, I'm fine with that. Put the screws on Talbot. Challenge him to a fight, but don't jump him from behind.

Put some pucks past Johnson(check), maybe run him a couple times to remind him you aren't happy about what happened(check), but allowing a guy who is a career ahl thug, who just finished his second fight of the nite to skate unescorted by the officials all the way back to the opposite side of the ice to fight a NHL goal-tender?

That can't be allowed to happen. AHL goons don't get to fight NHL goal-tenders. If the refs weren't going to do something about it, I'm glad someone on the Pens bench, did.

No sweat, some of the folks here had me in an uproar last night. To each their own...

I was going to post something related to the game, but like you said everyone sees things differently. Some were happy, some were pissed. It's just an on going argument..:L

I just dont see the argument though. These plays were way beyond some Matt Cooke shit but these guys are defending it and cheering. Like I said before no one here defends Cooke as far as I know. Hell most of the Pens fans hate him as much as the other fans.

As I said I am not an Isles fan nor a Penguins fan I also never said the isles were innocent.all I am saying is the pens are not innocent either. If you ate going to call a team out for being dirty you should be able to accept your teams dirty laundry as well. Both teams did dirty things last night if you want to call the isles busch league the pens were as well.

The only problem I had with any of it was the Talbot getting Semi Suckered, only thing is, how many times in the course of that play did that guy challenge Talbot? We don't know, if none, then he was a coward. If Talbot ignored the Challenge well.. Not sayin dude was right but if Max didn't accept a challenge which IMO would have defused a lot, then he screwed up. But if it was just a blatant sucker than He(Martin?) screwed up.

Either way their next game should be fun...

I dont think that was as bad as the Haley Tangradi deal. Illegal elbow a guys face in the glass and while he is whoosy on the ice you start punching him. That is gutless and should be the biggest suspension of the night imo.

Maybe we are misunderstanding each other then.seemed to me you were placing the blame on the isles when you were calling them busch league or ahl goons. And when I said what godard did was wrong you made it seem honorable.I suppose we should just agree to disagree before I call you a baseball fan or something.
