I dont think that was as bad as the Haley Tangradi deal. Illegal elbow a guys face in the glass and while he is whoosy on the ice you start punching him. That is gutless and should be the biggest suspension of the night imo.

Was that Haley? I thought it was Gilles?sp. I saw that a couple of times, it happened fast but I'm not sure the elbow stung him or the punch?

No team is innocent when it comes to "dirty" plays.. there are 20 some players on the team and no one can control everybody all the time...

With that said, I honestly do not think the Pens did anything 'dirty' last night. The Godard incident was a result of the refs not doing their job... Godard did what he needed to do because the refs failed to do what they are paid to do. It has been said over and over, a career AHL goon has no business fighting an NHL goalie. From the replay it appears that Johnson wanted to fight... but in his interview he said, 'I was surprised to see him skating towards me'... I don't think Haley was skating towards Johnny, I think he was skating towards the box, but when Johnny saw him skating down the ice unescorted, he assumed haley wanted to fight... it all should have been avoided if the refs did there job.

The real 'dirt' falls on the refs. They should be suspended and fined as well. When you teams only have 6 players on the bench, you know the refs lost control of that game and just started kicking people out.

I am not saying what he did was honorable...
I am saying it was necessary.
I am sure if you showed the 3 dirtiest clips from last night around the league, the Godard off the bench will be the least critizied.

That doesnt make it any less dirty though. I didnt see many clips, but didnt Goddard attack the guy from behind too?

OK, not from behind, but still more unaware than the Pens player, sure the Islander deserved it, but I think this was dirtier IMO

I'm not saying godard didn't have the right intentions either. All I'm saying is it could have been handled better oh his part then again there's allot of things that could have been handled better last night from the officiating to the decisions of both teams.

So we have 2 Devils fans making a claim that what Godard did was the dirtiest thing in the game. But everyone else including every sports person I have heard since the game is claiming something different. At some point you have to wonder why everyone else sees it different than you?

I dont think like the rest of the people? My thinking is this, the Penguin that got attacked from behind was atleast a 1 on 1 (or really 1 on none) thing, Goddard's the third man in pretty much as soon as the fight starts, while the Islander is spinning around (thats what make it not an attack from behind by the way) so theres very little chance the Islander saw him coming as well. Thats a 2 on 1 beat down (which yes, I do think he deserved). Can you guess which offense would get the harsher penalty in a court of law? Hell throw in 1 more Penguins and it's legally a gang beatdown.

I also never said it was the dirtier thing in the game.I said it was just as dirty if not dirtier than the Martin shot to tablet.some of the worst things are done with the best intentions.martins intentions may have been bad but godard landed several punches on an already engaged player. And not once did I mention gilles that was the dirtier play of the game.

Later on tonight will the punishment be handed out:

from tsn
"Islanders forwards Matt Martin, Trevor Gillies and Zenon Konopka are scheduled for in-person meetings with the NHL to discuss their roles in the contest."

Also known as truculence, belligerence, and pugnacity...In-person meetings usually mean a minimum five game suspension for each.

I will now proclaim this the longest Non Playoff or Olympic GNT.

It's a fact that no matter how objective one tries to be it's not easy if you like or dislike one of the teams involved in games like this.

I try to be as objective as possible but sometimes you see things with your heart and not your head. It has always been that way in sports and it will always be that way.

A few years ago when Chris Niel nailed Chris Drury of the Sabres I and most Sabres fans thought it was a cheap blindsided hit. The Sens fans saw it as Okay because Drury "had just released the puck".

It's hard to be totally objective when you have an interest one way or another and that's one of the great thing's about sport's.

Sports Illustrated had a great article on home field advantage, size of the crowd, What the score was and how it has a profound effect on emotions not only from the players and fans but also the refs.

They used soccer in a study and took a group of ref's to view close plays and if they would call penalties. Half of the ref's viewed the plays with no audio and the other half with audio and reaction from the home crowd. The ref's without the audio decided in most cases there should have been no penalty while the other half with the audio ruled there should have been a penalty.

Like the article said, It's not that the ref's were cheating or playing favorites they were reacting to emotions.

This goes for fans too.

I think most of you guy's and gal's will agree with this.

Just my two cent's folk's, carry on.

BTW it was an excellent article I think it was the January 17th edition. It covered all of the major sports.
