I remember that incident boss and that was a great post it gives allot of perspective.I don't have a bias one way or the other I'm a devils fan during an off season none the less don't have any reason to dislike either the pens or isles more than tje other at the moment.I'm just trying to be objective.

I bet the Pens bus driver caused the accident. :D J/K

I hope they tip better than Pat Kane.

Matt Cooke was actually driving, he was in this little old lady's blind spot when he decided to hit her from behind into one of theose cement barriers.

Typical... the little old lady shouldn't be going so slow. Cooke did what he had to do.

I will now proclaim this the longest Non Playoff or Olympic GNT.

It's a fact that no matter how objective one tries to be it's not easy if you like or dislike one of the teams involved in games like this.

I try to be as objective as possible but sometimes you see things with your heart and not your head. It has always been that way in sports and it will always be that way.

A few years ago when Chris Niel nailed Chris Drury of the Sabres I and most Sabres fans thought it was a cheap blindsided hit. The Sens fans saw it as Okay because Drury "had just released the puck".

It's hard to be totally objective when you have an interest one way or another and that's one of the great thing's about sport's.

Sports Illustrated had a great article on home field advantage, size of the crowd, What the score was and how it has a profound effect on emotions not only from the players and fans but also the refs.

They used soccer in a study and took a group of ref's to view close plays and if they would call penalties. Half of the ref's viewed the plays with no audio and the other half with audio and reaction from the home crowd. The ref's without the audio decided in most cases there should have been no penalty while the other half with the audio ruled there should have been a penalty.

Like the article said, It's not that the ref's were cheating or playing favorites they were reacting to emotions.

This goes for fans too.

I think most of you guy's and gal's will agree with this.

Just my two cent's folk's, carry on.

BTW it was an excellent article I think it was the January 17th edition. It covered all of the major sports.

Sorry to quote myself but does anyone know where I can get back issues of SI? Can you get them on line? I normally don't read it but I was in the Dr's office waiting to be seen and read this issue. I really recommend this to any sports fan it gives the stat's over thousands of games and changed my thinking on a lot of myths.

It talked about the odds in back to back games in hockey and basketball and a ton of other info.

BTW Home ice/ field/ court is more of an advantage in the NBA than other sports.

Great reading if you get the chance. Thanks Steve

Do you mean in terms of officiating? Because I would think all the different dimensions would have some effect in baseball.

If the league had more black and white set suspensions for certain actions of players I think allot of the cheap shots and dirty plays would start to decline as well as games like last night.I understand the want to review the hits and some of these players are not intending to hurt other players but its happening a lot.I'm all for heavy hitting but the players don't respect each other like they used to.hell maybe its time to dish out set suspensions when a player is hurt due to the actions of another review it further based on the intent or seriousness of the injury and double it for each offense.otherwise the league can't complain when games like this occur the league obviously has made poor decisions on the past when fishing out or ignoring suspensions at the rate their going someone's going to get seriously hurt.

They talked about that too. How teams pick their teams to match the park, be it a hitters or pitchers park and the crowd effect on the game. I would have never thought the time of day or crowd size would have an impact but I was wrong.

I was also wrong (statistically) about back to back games in hockey. They even broke it down to what team had to travel the home or away team. It was a GREAT read !

Just trust me it was an excellent read and I want to get that issue. I was going to ask my doctor if I could take it but had other things on my mind.

One of the best if not the best sports articles I have ever read, and that's a lot!

That does sound like a good read. They Mets stopped building around their ballpark long ago, and they suffered for it :(

Urkie, I will come to Roy's defense again here. I know once a player gets labeled a diver or whiner or whatever it's hard to shake that reputation. A couple of years ago I hated Roy for diving but he has since stopped and I have not seen him take a dive in well over a year and a half and has not received one diving penalty for almost two years. The reason for that? He stopped the diving.

In fact a couple of weeks before he was hurt and ended his season I posted on this site in a topic "Who is your teams MVP so far" I said for the Sabres you could make a strong argument for Roy. He has become a solid two way player works the PP and PK and was leading the team in scoring when he was injured.

I would have agreed with your assessment as a lot of Sabres fans would have two years ago but not anymore.

Fair enough Boss. I'm glad he's made an effort to clean up that stuff because he's a really good player and he doesn't need to be going around doing that kind of stuff.
