If the goalie doesnt want to go he has the right to leave his mask on to be honest I would have more respect for the guy taking a dive or turtling than a goon coming off the bench and throwing punches at an already engaged man. Goddard also didnt need to throw repeated sucker punches in order to protect his goalie he could have just as easily restrained the man.to me what Goddard did was worse than the sucker punch on Talbot

The Isles were sucker punching and cheap shotting all over the ice. There is no reason to think he is going to leave the goalie alone just because he keeps his gear on. As for restraining, they were already throwing punches when he got there. It isnt as if he his him from behind or while he was already down and injured.

At the end of the 2nd, Konopka is on the ice, not doing anything, not taking a run at anyone, not saying anything, but as soon as the horn blows, both linesmen immediately skate over to him and follow him off the ice. That's profiling, and that's wrong.

not that I am able to back any of this up... but, I bet if you ask NHL players, they would respect Godard's actions (coming off the bench to protect his goalie, regardless how willing the goalie is, from a career AHL goon) compared to sucker-punching an unsuspecting player from behind.

Talbot got lucky... I think he saw Martin's glove come flying off and then he just ducked and covered... not much else he could do in that situation, minus getting punched in the face. Engelland got there pretty quick to protect Talbot... but, Martin's intent was evident.. to delivery a sucker-punch to the face of an unsuspecting player.

Goddard will get a 10 game suspension. Because of what Goddard did Bylsma will be fined 10 grand & receive a suspension as well. This game certainly cost the Penguins more than 2 points.

...someones fist certainly hit his upper back while he was down. Actually, multiple. Watch again, he got hit many times there while down. Probably 4 or 5 (not that a number matters).

Like I said in my post, regardless of how willing johnson was to fight, Godard did the right thing by protecting his goalie from a career AHL goon. It's not dirty, it's not cheap, it was the situation the was before him. He didn't come out swinging a stick, throwing elbows, kicking, biting or anything I would deem dirty/cheap... he came to the aid of a teammate. And I respect him for that, he knows he was going to get suspended, lose a bunch of money.

I would rather have godards coming of the bench compared to cookes that target heads...

I'm completely impartial not a pens fan not an isles fan but i'll be the first to say a player should never leave the bench and engage someone from behind.thats why he should get the worst of it.I can understand he wanted to protect johnson but johnson made a poor decision dropping his gloves at that point his best bet would have been to go down and protect himself.
