This is what hockey was like back in the day.

Gillies, Martin, & Haley will be suspended & rightfully so.

Tangradi will get a minimum of 10 games.

Bylsma will be fined 10 grand & be suspended because Tangradi left the bench.

I don't know if the Penguins will be fined 100 grand or not because only Tangradi left the bench. It wasn't a bench clearing brawl so probably not.

What a GREAT game.

A prime example of how out of it the refs were tonight: when the game was at it's worst, and the benches were already half empty another scrum came about with Tanger/someone (?), and Talbot gets wrapped up with Konopka. They spin and wrestle and win Talbot goes down on the ice Konopka pushes him a bit and stands with his fist cocked back...and the refs are too preoccupied to separate them. That's just horrible. I don't care who's on the bottom, you have to stop that...props to Konopka for honoring the code there, but never should've happened.

I mean, Johnson wasn't backing down from anything, but the fact of the matter is it should never have happened, because as you said, a ref needs to be escorting him to the box. That ALSO said, players need to honor the code and respect their fellow player. Half the issue in sports right now is a lack of respect for the opponent. Inflicting pain is welcome, cheap shots and that junk has no place in sports.

Johnson shouldn't be dealing with a goon who literally just finished up his second go-round of the night, on talbot. A linesman needs to be holding onto a puke like that. He had no business being in this game, other than to bash peoples brains in.

I'm thoroughly disgusted with the nhl, tonight.

Did you hear asshole one and asshole two discussing the Bruins/Habs game on PTI? They said it was an embarrassment...and that wasn't even that bad. That was just some good ol' fashioned fighting. This...this was embarrassing. And I hate those two. Acting like they know ANYTHING about hockey.

On another note: I've never been happier that every star player on my team was out (sans...what...Letang I guess?) as I am tonight. At least it's our AHLers getting roughed up I suppose.

I dont think I would be happy about any part of this game. Especially the hit on Tangradi and Talbot. That is like being happy about the McSorely chop or the Bertuzzi shot.

Surprisingly yes. I think he was just never on the ice during the scrums, so he was saved from it. Brooksie gets into the rough stuff, but tends to avoid dropping the gloves or cheap shotting for the most part. Just some shoving in front of the net and good hitting is his usual.

The thing about the Gillies elbow that gets me: Tangradi is a young kid just trying to work his way into the league. He's been playing solid the past few games he's been up and working hard, making clean hits, and then some guy who's in his mid 30's (early 30's?) who's a career minor leaguer runs him, punches him while he's down, and taunts him. What does he care if he gets 20 games? He's a career AHLer. I hope Eric's okay...he was really starting to look promising.

EDIT: And I hope this hit specifically becomes a story even though Tangradi recieved it. Can you imagine if a guy like Stamkos was on the recieving end? I shudder at the thought.

Cooke is a player, not a team. If a team wants to push around Cooke, or fight Cooke, go for it. Cooke is not Max Talbot, or Eric Tangradi, so I take exception to teams running those guys. And the Max Talbot hit was a hockey play, and sucker punching him to avenge someone isn't the way to go. He didn't see the guy, and you typically don't expect to be punched from behind. Doesn't matter who's on the recieving end, you can't defend that.
