All of this depends on who we get in FA.

I think if you add a DT that can make plays though (not just a depth guy...that would be a bust i.e. Rivers pick in the 1st) that whole D gets better. S is a huge need but there's not a guy worth taking in the first. RB is a huge need but Richardson is the only back that I'd draft in the first (not sure how much separation there is from LaMar Miller to David Wilson, Polk etc). Honestly, I'd love to double dip on OG"s in the first round with DeCastro and Glenn but know that's not happening. So all that considered they NEED to come out of the 1st with and OG. that's priority 1. I'd say corner is 2 after that they have bigger needs but there are no players at the positions that warrant that high of a pick.

There are at least 2 S's with 1st round grades. I'd prefer both over any DT that will be left at our pick. Also whatever DT comes in is going to be behind Atkins, Peko and Sims if we bring him back. They aren't going to play the majority of the time. Wilson and Miller are both late 1st round picks which is where our second 1st rounder will be. There are players at RB, S, CB all that should be there when we pick that would warrant that pick. Also as I said I'd rather have DE than a DT.

Just saw my 1st mock which have the Bengals selecting Mark Barron, though I'd rather have David DeCastro @17 I could live with these picks. In 1992 the Cowboys used their first 1st Round pick, also the 17th pick, and a high 2nd Round pick, 37th overall, on CB Kevin Smith and SS Darren Woodson respectively and those selections paid immediate dividends as the rookies helped the Cowboys to a Super Bowl win over the Bills. Marvin Lewis has been searching for a Safety since he's been here (Mark Roman, Rogers Beckett, Kevin Kaesviharn, Marquand Manuel, Madieu Williams, Kim Herring, Ifeanyi Ohalete, Dexter Jackson, Nedu Ndukwe, Marvin White, Roy Williams and Chris Crocker) and all have bombed! I say pull the trigger on these picks and improve our secondary once and for all.

17. Cincinnati Bengals (via 8-7 Oakland Raiders): Alfonzo Dennard, Nebraska, CB

Dennard is not going to blow you away with power or speed. In fact, there isn't one thing that he is elite at, yet he is one of the most versatile players on the board, a jack of all trades the Bengals could use.

23. Cincinnati Bengals (9-7): Mark Barron, Alabama, S

The wise move is for the Bengals to continue forming a defensive juggernaut to contend with division rivals. Barron may not serve a specific need but he is a no-brainer pick. I am not so sure he slides this far, though.

Mark Barron doesn't improve our secondary. He improves the tackling and run support, but we don't need that.

So you're happy with Chris Crocker? I don't think anyone would agree that Troy Polamalu is a ball hawk but he is a playmaker that makes a good Steelers defense great! Mark Barron is that type of player. Plus he's currently ranked as the 13th best player in the draft so he may not even be available when the Bengals make their selection.

I didn't say don't get a safety. I just want somebody who can cover.

S Mark Barron
Another secondary player with fantastic size (6-1½, 223), Barron is a versatile playmaker who can play the point in coverage or drop into the box and knock a ball carrier's teeth out in run support. He set the tone against LSU by filling hard and delivering a heavy blow to RB Michael Ford on the first play of the game, something he also did earlier in the season against Penn State.

Barron also shows some tightness in coverage, but his instincts, awareness and experience make up for it, and his ability to act as the quarterback of the secondary is also an attractive quality. He won't tear up the NFL combine and safety doesn't carry particularly high positional value, but Barron could certainly fill a need for the likes of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New York Jets, New England Patriots or Baltimore Ravens in the mid-to-late first round.

How many people would still be disappointed if the Bengals were to select Mark Barron? I don't think he'll be there but I would be ecstatic if we were to draft him.

I'll revise my opinion and say I'd be OK with him, but have several guys I'd rather have.
