And is Heredia in the dog house, still hurt or something I'm unaware of?

Yea I figured Ichiro would play a bunch because Mariners. But I didn’t think it would be in every game started by a righty. Heredia is not a great player, but he has potential to improve and he's fucking better than ichir0

I think that's another reason fans get frustrated. Seager generally plays poorly at the start of the year, but the M's are steadfast on him hitting 5th, even when there's better options. I can pretty much guarantee when Cruz is back that Haniger will drop back down to 6th.

Yep and I’m already annoyed thinking about it

This ^

You already know what you have in Ichiro ( and he is not contributing to the Ms future in any capacity )

Play Heredia and see how he develops. he batted .250 last year in around 350-400 at bats so he will only improve on that with steady play time.

ichiro was near exact .250 avg last year and had 1/2 the at bats Heredia did

I am hoping for a big farewell day at the ballpark in late spring so Ichiro gets his big goodbye party and rides off into the sunset

Seager's stats:

2017: .249/.323/.450
2017: RISP: .287/.376/.517

2016: .278/.359/.499
2016: RISP: .310/.417/.614

He has actually hit better with runners in scoring position the past two years.

Oh... guess I was looking at # left on base which he was pretty high on... I dunno why I couldn't think of RISP but that's the stat I was looking for. Alright well I guess I'm full of malarkey.

Didn't see the game but ya, that move doesn't make any sense at all. I mean it's not like the bench is loaded with great players but I would've used Motter personally. Just doesn't make sense to use a pinch hitter who if is successful you cannot pinch run for.

And is Heredia in the dog house, still hurt or something I'm unaware of?

With the veteran RH pitching, I agree with the article that Romine made the most sense. Plus, he can run the bases if he gets on. That move made zero sense in every way...so that means it made perfect sense to the Mariners.

Just for clarification, I wasn't accusing anyone of literally hating Kyle Seager. "Hating" on him being a figure of speech meaning undue or overly harsh criticism. Final word on it from me, will leave it at that. I too hope he starts hitting better and soon.

I hated him yesterday when he left 6 or so guys on base

Then I double hated him when he had a guy at 3rd late in the game and zero outs and he takes the fastball strike that was up in the zone ( an easy ball to hit to the outfield to score the run from 3rd - was tied 2-2 at the time )

then the very next pitch was a down an in slider that he swings at ?? yea you are gonna hit a ground ball when you swing at those and sure enough Segura broke for home on 1st contact and was a dead man on a grounder to 1st baseman. Pro tip for Segura or any other runner. Breaking on 1st contact is an all out committemnt and OK at times. It is NEVER a good idea to break on 1st contact and then pull up 1/2 way to home. Its an all out shot at scoring where you force the fielder to make a decent / quick throw to the plate to get you out. Stopping 1/2 way defeats the whole point of breaking on 1st contact. A fucking high school ball player knows that

But yea I hope Seager gets it going quick. Healy is in jeopardy of losing playing time by batting .050
They will never sit Seager when healthy due to struggles at the plate

Ichiro managing a solid -0.2 WAR already this year. Question is does he reach 0 at any point. I say no but man at least he brings that FUN FACTOR!

If they don't want Heredia to hit against righties then why is he even on the roster? He needs to be in Tacoma playing everyday. Makes zero sense for him to rot on the bench.

He is probably their best defensive OF.

no doubt. At least Servais has realized that late in games when a lead needs to be protected.

I agree with that, and still think his raw upside is better than any other OF. But he is sitting almost every game for Ichiro? I just don't get why he is even up, once Cruz gets back send Heredia down and keep Motter up if they have no plans to use him. Heredia is still green and needs to play to improve his skills, not just he a late inning pinch hitter for Ichiro or defensive replacement.

I agree he should play instead of Ichiro, but I think sending him down does little for him but getting AB's against lesser competition. I have no problem sending younger talent down when needed, but he seems like a more seasoned player and minors won't help. I also don't see his future as an everyday player. I think his greatest value is playing 3 or 4 times a week against LH starters and then used as a late game PH and/or defensive replacement. :2cents:

I am very pro Heredia as I love his 100% all out hustle and premium defense when in the field. And he without a doubt has the best arm of any of our outfielders.

But I agree with the spot fill in role he has and moving forward I just do not see him as an everyday corner outfielder on any club. With the league fully in the midst of the home run era. A MLB corner outfielder has to jack minimum 15 bombs a season to be in consideration these days. Heredia is never going to have that kind of power. And if he tries to hard he will struggle to be a .275 hitter moving forward which is his strength ( spray contact hitter with above avg speed on the base paths )

I guess I'm overvaluing Heredia. I think he has the raw talent to be an everyday starter for the Mariners.
