I guess I'm overvaluing Heredia. I think he has the raw talent to be an everyday starter for the Mariners.
For the Mariners? Probably. Is he an everyday talent? Maybe, with a lot of work with his swing. He over-swings, pulls everything, and can't bunt to save his life. I like the kid because of his high energy, but at some point production has to play a part.
I agree with that! He has baseball talent and skill I just don't think he is using it appropriately or at least in the most efficient way at the plate.Because he knows the shortest porch is down the left field line. he tries way too hard to hit for power and pull the ball. Someone in the organization ( player wise ) has got him thinking a big paycheck may be down the road if he can become a HR hitter also.
And that philosophy is going to be his undoing. he needs to keep his weight back and plant his front leg and drive the ball all over the ballpark ( similar to Segura ) That is his ticket to being an everyday player possibly.
lunging at the pitch and having all his weight on his front foot just looks really out of whack when he swings.

True, but he hasn't exactly been given a chance to produce. I'm not saying he is a superstar, but IMO he should be playing everyday in the minors. He hasn't been given a chance in the bigs to prove he is just a defensive replacement.
That is exactly what I would want him to do... I don't think changing things mid season is a great idea, most of the time, plus I don't think the anyone is telling him to do so. Don't get me wrong I think there is a time and a place for a mid season change, is your 4th or 5th outfielder the right guy for it, idk each situation should be evaluated individually. Thing is I think he has a lot of "skill" as far as baseball goes, but I also think he has fallen a bit behind because I think the M's rushed him by about 1 season. So he is playing catch up on the fly with a swing that he should've changed a long time ago.In most cases I would agree with you, but if you have a guy who I just a total hacker at the plate more reps are not going to help him. If you are saying send him to the minors to change his swing, then I would buy that but sending him down just to do what he does won't matter. I would love to see him change his stroke in the early off season and then go to some winter league and use it in action.
yeah...... maybe i was a bit rash and over the edge right there
it is frustrating though
Yeah, it's frustrating all right....no doubt. Seag is certainly not the only one leaving guys on the bags. The M's, in the last 2 games have left 21 runners on the base paths. TWENTY ONE!! They has the same problem last year leaving guys on the bases. It's a Mariners thing.Indeed frustrating, but he has objectively hit better with runners in scoring position. I found it quite surprising, but facts are facts.

I'm sure the fact the M's do not "try" a squeeze play does not come as any surprise to you. What I can't figure out is the M's have gone through several skippers who have not attempted any of that "cool" stuff. The last time I can remember any attempts was when sweet Lou was leading the show, but probably someone has tried it that I don't remember.I have watched alot of Mariners games over the past few years ... and I cannot recall 1 single time we have attempted either a safety squeeze bunt or suicide squeeze bunt play to score a critical runner from 3rd in a 'game on the line situation'
I see other ball clubs use this quite effective tactic regularly thru the course of the season. Not sure why the Mariners think it is not effective unless they have zero confidence in their entire teams bunting skills. Its a great play with runners on 2nd and 3rd and nobody out as the runner will always advance to 3rd and if the squeeze play fails you have 1 out and a guy at 3rd ( still a good situation )

Todays game day related:
I got a bad feeling todays game. The pitcher we are facing today Borrias sp? had a career game last start blanking the Orioles just last week and took a 1 hitter into the 9th inning.
If he shuts down the top of our line up ... we will be lucky to score a run or 2 this game. As everyone knows how lame the bottom half of our line up has been all year.
My prediction... pitchers duel and we lose 4-2
No offense to any Dave Sims fans, but ya know.....he's got to talk about something. Is Dave Sims remotely capable of going more than one inning without talking about the fact that it's like 30 degrees over there? He acts like it's the most extreme weather a sporting event has ever been played in, my god.
