The Atlanta Braves and Seattle Mariners are in agreement on a trade that will send outfielder Jarred Kelenic, left-hander Marco Gonzales and first baseman Evan White to the Braves in exchange for right-handers Cole Phillips and Jackson Kowar, sources tell ESPN.

The Braves-Mariners deal was quite simply a money dump for Seattle. Atlanta takes on the salaries of White and Gonzales and gets Kelenic, whose upside remains tantalizing. Phillips was a second-round pick in 2022 and Kowar a first-rounder in 2018.

First glance: it’s Kelenic and about $20 million is salary relief for a legit prospect with an elbow issue (Phillips) and a former first round type Jerry loves to take a shot on in Kowar.

Kowar is a wild acquisition for the Mariners. The Royals worked INTENSELY with him to try to rein in the highly-drafted RHP's command, to no avail; eventually, after moving him to the 'pen, flipped him to Atlanta for Kyle Wright. A big-R reclamation project.

The Mariners are also sending the Braves cash considerations in the deal, which just became official.

I still think Kelenic is going to be a great player someday. The pressure got to him and he needs to learn to deal with it.
But he didn't really want to be here either. He's probably really happy right now.

Probably true, but why give him away? Insane. We wouldn't include him in a deal for Reynolds, but give him away to save money.
