He doesn't have a great deadline track record and now you add the fact he may be a little desperate since it could be his last year here and you have a recipe for a Bavasi trade.

Scary!

C.J. Cron, 1B | Los Angeles Angels
Stats: .288/.332/.439, 8 HRs (Double-A Arkansas)
The Angels have the first-base and designated hitter positions tied up for years to come with Albert Pujols signed to a $240 million deal through 2021 and the salary arbitration rights to Mark Trumbo through 2017. Therefore, Cron is expendable.
Cron, 23, was a first-round pick in 2011, and I think he has 30-homer potential. He could be used in a trade package to acquire Chase Headley of the Padres or a good pitching prospect, such as Danny Hultzen of the Mariners or Chris Archer of the Rays.

Funny if it ever happened, and it is just speculation on the reporters part, but we drafted his brother and he didn't sign with us.

As I was reading that I saw the name Cron and thought it sounded familiar.

I agree with what SeattleCoug said, I would for the most part stand pat.

Kuma I want to hold on to, Morales I would also like to hold on to, I wouldn't trade Morse because I feel like his stock is at an all time low and the Mariners would really be selling low on him when they would be better holding on to him, Raul I don't think the Mariners would even get a decent offer for due to his age and the rest are mostly smaller pieces.

As I said I think if the right moves are made this offseason, the Mariners could have a contender next year. Do I have faith the right moves will be made? Of course not, it's the Mariners. But it can be done. It would be a hell of a lot harder if you trade away Kuma, Morales or Morse though.

Sadly there is the chance that Jack Z feels the pressure to make a move to save his job. I just hope he does not do anything rash. Sadly for him he is in a lose-lose situation.

I just heard a report from Ken Rosenthal, that Raul Ibanez has asked not to be traded. This doesnt shock me as he now lives here and he enjoys mentoring the younger kids. I think his value as mentor the next 2.5 months, is worth way more then a B-C level prospect so I am happy to hear this.

Agree 100%

Hope he stays this year and possibly next and retires here at home.

Agreed. I said trade him if he wanted it and then re-sign him again next year. But if he said no, you don't even think about it. He came back to M's because he lives here and wanted his family all together in their home again and you have to appreciate and reward that.

Kuma is a tough one for me. If we get a really good offer, I might take it. He is 32 and signed for 2 more years (team option in '15) and I am not sure we will be ready to contend in the next 2 years...if ever. The other reason is that free agent pitchers SHOULD be easier to sign than hitters making him easier to replace. It would have to be for current MLB hitters and or MLB hitter and MLB SP.

Morales is a free agent and if we can get more than a comp pick for him then I would deal him and try to re-sign him in the off season. I am assuming M's have already spoken to his agent about a contract and it probably didn't go well or it probably would have been done by now.

Morse is another free agent to be so if a player we can get for him is better than a comp pick then take the player. I am not so excited in re-signing him which I thought I would be when we got him. He has not had any luck in his Seattle career.

Saunders I would deal if the return fits. Same goes for Wilhelmsen or Perez. Ackley as well, but doubt he has value at this point.

I believe Morales is a Boras client, so it doesn't surprise me that an extension, if the desire is there on the Mariners' part to get one done, hasn't happened and I wouldn't expect one to happen between now and the beginning of the free agency period. I believe Boras likes his clients to become free agents whenever their contracts are up to try to maximize their value (and get Boras, himself, the most money)... the thinking being that re-signing with a team means taking less I guess.

That is Boras's thought pattern though he did one in-season re-signing last year (can't recall which player off hand, but I know it happened because writers wrote about it because it never happens with him).

I hope they can re-sign him and move on. He is a professional hitter and we just don't get enough of those in Seattle. But with that said, I don't want him to walk for just a comp pick either.

Even though Boras seems to be a prick, he is an amazing agent for his clients. He should realize that Morales' most value and money he can obtain would be with Seattle. After the season, as long as he's not traded, Boras is going to turn it into a bidding war between the Mariners and themselves. That's why if Boras is smart, and Smoak keeps improving, now is the best time for Morales to get an extension. If Smoak does keep up what he is doing then Morales' monetary value drops drastically.

It will be interesting to see just how much a club is willing to give up for Morales in a trade, or how much they'll be willing to offer him in 2014 and beyond as a FA. His ankle is a huge issue. He can't play more than a few games per year at a position.

I think a medium to high qualifying offer should be enough to keep Morales here in Seattle if that's what he wants. Of course, he might want to go somewhere that can contend sooner. We'll see.

Agreed. I still don't like the guy, but he is great at what he does. But he better watch himself because Jay Z is gunning for him. That should be fun.

I'm not entirely sure that the most money Morales could get would be from the Mariners. Given the Mariners' continued need for a consistent bat and given how well he hits here, it's possible that they'd value him more than any other team, but I doubt they'll be the only team interested and I think Boras will want to find out just how many other teams do have interest and possibly use the Mariners' interest and need as leverage to get him a better deal somewhere else. At the very least, he's gonna want to use that interest to drive up the price with the Mariners. There might not be a ton of interest and it might ultimately be limited to American League teams, but you can't tell me that there won't be at least some interest in his services from an AL team looking for a DH/1B type who is good for roughly 20-30 homers and a .275 average depending on the ballpark.

Morale's ankle is worse than most people know. He can't play 1B more than a handful of games per year. He's solid with the bat, but is he solid enough to turn down a reasonable, multi-year qualifying offer from the M's?

We'll see soon enough. If he doesn't get traded, I expect the QO to happen soon.

Since the city of Detroit just filed bankruptcy, can we get Cabrera and Fielder for cash considerations?

It's funny because Jay-Z is not and will never be 1/100th the agent Boras is, he's just attracting clients because of who he is.

I agree about Jay-Z, but he is great at marketing. I thought it was funny he called Boras out in one of his new songs. The gloves are off!!!

Reality.

I've dealt with a lot of osteo problems, and know that surgery can only do so much for that kind of damage to tendons. It's really bad for a shoulder, and twice as bad for an ankle. He ruined his, and all you need to do is look at his gait to figure it out.

There's a reason he has been limited with his 1B play this year even when he was severely needed. The M's physio team aren't idiots. Even a sprain (which is usually a partial tear) could be the end of his career. He knows it. Everybody does.

What I'm saying isn't exactly controversial.

I love Morales, and really would love to see him stay here. After years of the likes of Olivo and Ryan being the examples for our kids to look up to, they finally have a real team player who makes a lot of solid contact on board. I'm not trashing him at all.
