Yes if that said player is a total dud easy to eat the 4mil but still producing that 4mil looks like a bargain for a contender and it would be much less in his final year of the contract.IMO front loading it isn’t for trade purposes. It for in year 3 or 4 the team can just release him and eat $4m of whatever. I truly think the back end of the contract is what is scaring ownership off of signing or extending players. Doing the opposite of deferring money is a way to appease ownership and attract FA’s IMO. Basically do a NFL model of front loading, with signing bonus’, and incentives. Another way of putting it is let the players brag about their contract like Julio can even though half of the actual contract is based off of incentives.
