Ya I think playoffs are a different animal. 2001 proved that. Regular season is a marathon while playoffs are a sprint and the sprint requires a different method. Bullpen is huge in today's playoffs. More than starting SP's I would say.Castillo just seems like the perfect guy to trade this offseason. Not sure how much money Baltimore would eat of his deal but the M’s and Orioles match up perfectly for trade partners. They need controllable pitching and the M’s need hitters.
While I agree with the value. The Orioles have flamed out now twice cause they didn’t have pitching. Though this postseason was weird where there wasn’t really any dominant staff as it seemed like bullpens were more valuable than a number 2 starter.
If it stays where the bullpen is more important than shouldn’t the M’s always deal from their staff? If baseball is evolving in that direction IMO only 10% of your budget should be on the starters.Ya I think playoffs are a different animal. 2001 proved that. Ya but you need the staff to get you to the playoffs. They don't need to be as elite as in the past because of poor hitting, but you still need competitive guys that can go 6+ innings. But yes, trading Castillo would not hurt them if you can sign an innings eater to replace him along with bats to be competitive. They don't even need to be big bats. Just bats that put the damn ball in play around the field. If it stays where the bullpen is more important than shouldn’t the M’s always deal from their staff? Just wondering if it’s Castillo, Gilbert or Kirby. Personally I don’t want them dealing Gilbert and Kirby and Castillo were the 4th and 5th at the end of the year
Totally agree and I think we'll see this off-season whether it's FA/trade that playoff teams or teams that just missed the playoffs will load up with good pen arms and see it again by next year trade deadline.Ya I think playoffs are a different animal. 2001 proved that. Totally agree. I read an article about him and nothing on it was flattering. Lazy is right. Mediocre numbers while playing in a little league park.
