it's just as easy to plug the numbers in for a calendar year. if you do all 2023 numbers: $363 million in revenue, $145 million in operating costs, and $140 million in payroll, then you get profit in the high $70s. there's not much room to hide with the revenue sharing model in place, and revenue is the key number here unless you think they're lying or hiding salary and have wildly different operating costs than they report.

i think i figured out what wazzu is talking about. mlb doesn't disclose the exact amount each team gets from revenue sharing. it's supposed to be used primarily for team improvement, and mlb supposedly monitors it, but there have been plenty of articles talking about how teams maybe don't use it how it's supposed to be used. the pirates org was scrutinized for this pretty heavily recently regarding how much of revenue sharing $$$$ they were putting into player salary.

the numbers that people who put these charts together are local revenue only, and again, the numbers are required. the m's like every other club put 48% of local revenue back into the pool, but unless it's a top market team like the dodgers or yanks (who put a shitload back into their teams anyway), the total revenue for teams goes way up since it includes national revenue alloted by mlb with it's $11.2 billion in revenue reported last year.
