Let's play "swap the albatross". Luongo to Tampa, Vinny Lac to Detroit, Franzen to San Jose, Marleau to Vancouver.

Farhan Lalji was tweeting that the Canucks should trade Cory (get a better return) and keep Bobby Lou. From a hockey sense, it definitely has merit, but man oh man, that could be a tough sell to the fans.

While he has looked solid in the games he's played, do we really know if Cory Schneider can keep it up for an entire season? How do we know he's durable enough and won't turn into the next Rick Dipietro? You know what you're getting with Luongo, trade the young guy that will get you a bigger return.

another interesting tidbit from the press conferences was how Gillis talked about how they "turned Hodgson into an asset they could move"

you look at his sheltered minutes (80+% offensive zone starts) leading up to the trade, winning the rookie of the month award, scoring at a 25G/82 game pace (versus 15G/82 games for the rest of the season).... seems like pretty savvy asset management. Interesting to see a GM role play out into line-up decisions like that.

those canucks army guys do some pretty impressive analysis

Can we pinpoint when the Canucks started sheltering Cody Hodgson? | CanucksArmy

he is under contract until he's 43, if that makes you feel better :thumb:

He's under contract until he's an overweight, angry bike rider with an often untimely ability to be too sarcastic?

Poor guy.

Jeff Carter's 11-year deal was traded twice in eight months

I wish they'd stop pointing at this. The first trade was to a guy who has the mental processing power of stuffed cabbage. And the second time the Kings thought they were unloading their own stupid contract and unworthy hack. Looks like LA really thought they had gotten over on CBJ. Just because it seems to have worked out for C'bus so far, doesn't mean LA wasn't trying to unload something they didn't want.

Kinda what I was aiming for earlier in the thread when I said that Vancouver would be getting back some kind of problem. Either salary or dumb contract. No one is going to take Lou on for prospects. Someone is going to play on Vancouver's need to get him out of the way and play it to their advantage.

who, coincidentally, is on the list of those speculated to be interested in this 10 yr deal.
for the record, i don't think Lou's contract is as bad as generally reported.
4 years at $6.7m, then drops significantly in a hurry. the last couple are throwaway (ie. retirement) years.
