jesus bobby lou ... where are your balls???
I think it took huge brass ones to stand in and answer every one of the questions from a scrum of 20 reporters.
He didn't have to say anything to the media though. He could have dealt with this one-on-one with Gillis.

he was asked that question specifically by a reporter in the scrum.
huge kudos to him for not ducking it.

man, watching that media scrum made me want to give Lou a hug.

Devs have some solid guys in the pipeline and I think they have bigger issues than goaltending. We still have to give up a 1st round pick with the Kovy debacle 2 summers ago so I'm not sure what type of package we could put together. Also, a lot of the cap space being freed up by Marty's expiring contract will go towards resigning Parise. While I guess it is a possibility, I don't see it as a likely one.

You know you can gain that first rounder back by trading the rights to Parise to a team right before the draft...

I think a lot of teams will show interest.

- Toronto can always use goaltenders.
- Tampa needs a new goalie, and Lou look downright young compared to their out-going starter.
- I would assume Chicago has lost some faith in Crawford as their man of the future.
- Pittsburgh possibly has the same issue with MAF.
- The Islanders love long contracts for goaltenders.
- Philly could be downright deadly with even a solid goaltender.

Obviously there would be cap considerations, etc., but I think there will be a lot of interest, it's just a question of what they can get back.

ive seen the wings mentioned too which was a bit odd :noidea:

the contract length is an albatross right now and my expectation on asset return isnt high ... Ill be happy with cap re-allocation in a different direction ... if they can get away without taking on a bad contract Ill be happy .... I see Ryan Malone has a no-movement clause *phew*

honestly i think lou's comments were a bump for his teammate and protege.. i think it was a good guy being a good teammate and giving the kid the props he deserves.. i think its a real classy move

unfortunately for the canucks, goalies aren't claiming full value in the offseason.. aside from the bryz signing (where the flyers gave him the whole casino, not just the cards) no goalie has really signed for big money in the offseason.. everyone is looking at howard, niemi, leighton, MAF.. you dont need an elite goalie to win, you need a goalie on a hot streak.. which is just as likely to happen if you pay the guy 2 mil, as it is if you pay him 7 mil.. JMO.. that's why a guy like vokoun who put up vezina caliber numbers for 5 years in florida and got a 1.5 mil/yr offer as his best offer (and he subsequently collapsed out of no where)

if only homer understood this :(

yeah but isn't EVERY goalie streaky in the playoffs? Brodeur the exception in his glory. Roy was way different too but you look at the 30+ goalies in the league that are starters which goalie is a guaranteed non streaky goalie?

There isn't a goddamn one you can rely on.

Brodeur is the only active goalie to have won 8 games in a playoff on more than two occasions (and even then, he hasn't done it since 2003). We're pretty far removed from the days of Roy and Belfour and Brodeur doing it every year.

To put it in perspective, Marc-Andre Fleury is the most reliable playoff guy around, and he's as inconsistent as a lumpy milkshake.

A tweet from Jay Onrait (TSN anchor):

Brett Favre could learn from Roberto Luongo about a graceful exit. Then again Roberto could learn from Brett about taking wiener pics. Draw

another interesting tidbit from the press conferences was how Gillis talked about how they "turned Hodgson into an asset they could move"

you look at his sheltered minutes (80+% offensive zone starts) leading up to the trade, winning the rookie of the month award, scoring at a 25G/82 game pace (versus 15G/82 games for the rest of the season).... seems like pretty savvy asset management. Interesting to see a GM role play out into line-up decisions like that.

They may need a better goalie now that Lidstrom may retire (and Stuart is supposedly headed West to Anaheim or San Jose)???

I have zero idea, but I'd assume that Malone may waive his NMC to go to Vancouver if he wants to win another one.

You're going to need him when Thornton is sent to Columbus.

lol, no problem, just send Ryan Johansen and the 2nd overall pick. :heh:
(deja vu all over again eh?)

Ah yes, The Temptation of Brad Stuart, the Flames went down that bumpy road, he's a Ferrari on the outside, but a Pinto on the inside.

That is interesting.

I'm not sure if that's really cool or just a bad idea.

A huge part of me thinks coaches should be left alone by management during a season. Another part of me thinks that the bigger picture needs to be considered more. :noidea:

i briefly caught Donald S last night and he was pretty drunk but who in the Ottawa organization made the call on putting Jakob Silfverberg in the lineup last night?

I think Cherry said someone from the sens said pre-game ("we are a rebuilding team and we have to see what our young players can do")

In Calgary, we wish owners would leave the management team alone, however, we have owners who think they are savvy hockey guys.

Elliotte Friedman ‏ @FriedgeHNIC
Roberto Luongo tells Vancouver reporters he will waive his no-trade if asked.

balls in Gillis' court

That's great news. I'm pretty sure the Nucks could use a bag of pucks. Gonna have to practice even more if you want to win the cup next year. :pound:

L.A. Lariviere ‏ @L_A_theRiver
Roberto #Luongo has written a list of four teams to which he would accept to be traded. Details to come.

caveat: never heard of this Lariviere guy. "independent sports writer" out of Montreal.

or not:
james duthie ‏ @tsnjamesduthie
Contrary to some Twitter talk, Luongo has not submitted a list of teams to the Canucks.
