Guess I disagree with you guys. I think Jackson was getting the most out of that roster as possible. The leaps and bounds in defensive efficiency alone speak to this. Let's also not forget the amount of injuries he's coached around.

I think GS goes backwards, not forwards - similar to Denver when they fired Karl. Dumb firings usually don't work out for the better for most teams.

I disagree. They added iggy and bogut who when healthy its hard not to be a top defensive team. Also lots of perimeter defense on this team. Could of got more out of this roster on offense

I wonder how Dallas did after they forced out Don Nelson.
Nellie did turn around one of the worst franchises ever.
But, the owner wanted him out. It was a clash with the front office.
Dallas probably faded into obscurity after firing Nelson in 2005.

Heck, even my idiotic front office Spurs team are thinking about firing Bob Hill.
He only averaged 59.5 wins for the Spurs in his 3 season.
Despite all that winning, the ownership wants him gone. It was a clash with the front office.
I hear they are going to hire some unknown first timer called Gregg Popovich.
The SPurs will never be the same if they do that stupidity.

I also am curious whether the Clippers are going to survive firing Vinny Del *****?
It was a clash with the front office.

For the sake of accuracy, Popovich actually hired himself. He was the GM and VP. It was his decision to fire Bob Hill. He then named himself head coach.

Which made his comments years later about "teams not being patient enough with coaches" pretty funny. (Although the hypocrisy went largely unnoticed).

The point is the NBA is littered with the carcasses of fired coaches.

I am not even sure who the most tenured coach in the NBA East is these days.
I think an NBA coach can expect to last 2-4 seasons tops....maybe less.

Any NBA coaching termination (unless their name is Auerbach, Riley, Jackson, or Popovich) merits a gigantic yawn.

It is a PLAYERS league. Coaches are completely and utterly expendable.

Brooks and Vogel will join Jackson on the unemployment line if they lose their series as well.
And they have far more playoff/regular season victories.

I agree with your overall point. At least, that is how the owners see things. Whether that's how they should see things is a different story. 5 coaches (Phil, Red, Kundla, Pat, and Pop) have more championships (34) than the rest of the coaches combined (33). So they might be important.

The most tenured EC coach in terms of career games coached is Mike Brown.
The most tenured EC coach in terms of games coached at current gig is Spoelstra.

In fact, Spoelstra is tied for 2nd place (behind Pop, tied with Carlisle) for most games coached in current position. Which speaks to your point.

I don't get this love affair with Steve Kerr.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but he's never coached anywhere on any level, right? WHY is everyone so interested in him???

He's the current Flavor of the Week. 3 years from now he'll be Assistant GM in Cleveland.

@Rusty_SFChron 43s

"Lacob indicated that Jackson was the right man to turn around the team's culture, but he isn't the right man to take the team to next level."

Pretty much online with what I've been saying...

I dont think its a big deal either way like Memphis firing their coach last year. I do think Mark Jackson is a PR disaster waiting to happen, though.

And why is that?

A bunch of reasons that I don't feel like explaining

All I can say about Kerr is that in interviews, he comes off as intelligent, grounded, and without ego.

The vibe out there is the front office wants a guy who is going to blend in. That isn't Jackson. He ruled the kingdom (quite well IMO), and apparently that was part of the reason he got axed.
