McCarthy. 5 yrs of college coaching experience 21 years ago.

1987-1988 - Fort Hays St (graduate assistant)
1989-1991 - Pitt (Quarterbacks Coach)
1992 - (Wide Receivers Coach)

There are a plethora of past successful pro coaches who failed miserably in the college ranks. Very few success stories.

I really dont know many that were failures, especially solid NFL coaches. There are some coordinators, but I dont think the list is really that skewed to the negative side of things. Mostly because it is very rare to see NFL head coaches jump, though with the money escalating in college I think you will see more of it..

I keep hearing harbaugh, why would a nfl coach, less than a year removed from winning a super bowl even consider going to college? not gonna happen

Doesn't like management and didn't sign contract extension? :noidea: harbaugh does what he wants. I agree it sounds far fetched but I don't know the guy, so who knows.

Just as important, why would an NFL coach in the middle of a playoff run entertain leaving? Its stupid to even put active NFL head coaches on a list, let alone winning NFL head coaches. Might as well ask for Bill Parcells, Bill Belichick, and Jimmy Johnson.

I think Franklin would be a really good fit there. He's managed to put together the best team in Tennessee right now.

Franklin and Shaw are the 2 best realistic candidates that I've heard mentioned.

That is Jim. John was a rumor month or so ago. That died down. The story at the time was he was tired of the NFL. He has lost most of the pieces to his success and there was speculation that he thought he was hamstrung with Flacco.

You don't? How about Mike Sherman, Bill Callahan, et al?

They can coach pro players, surely they can coach a bunch of college kids.

Doesn't work that way. As TexasMan said, college football is an entirely differentt animal.

Neither were very good. Callahan was a head coach in the NFL for 2 seasons. Hardly fit the mold. I actually think Sherman was responsible for much of the A&M success recently. He got screwed over. How about Carroll? Mora? Coughlin? Most of the problem is that colleges hire NFL retreads. I really can not remember a NFL guy leaving their HC position to take a HC job in college. Fired guys, I remember.

I hope it's an NFL coach. Good chance of failure with those.

I think its going to be Franklin.

He is young and has the chrasima and energy that would provide the attention and "wow" factor that Texas is looking for and would be able to win over the Texas faithful. From what I have seen he calls a good game. If it is more the coordinator then he can bring them with him. I don't think any of the assistants are safe at Texas and a whole scale house cleaning looks to be in order. I think Franklin would bring the youthful vigor, excitement, and swagger that has been missing from the longhorns.

I would be happy for a little vigor, excitement and swagger. Don't care who brings it, just bring it.

I don't know why Mike Gundy's name doesn't pop up more often.
He's a good coach, knows the Texas recruiting grounds, has been around a while.
His last contract extension didn't go well 2 years ago, don't know what the problem was, but I don't get the impression that Gundy and the administration see eye to eye on things.

#1 and #2, not even being considered because of the NCAA violations that they ran to the NFL in an attempt to avoid.

Those 3 names are just ridiculous.

Pete C has built a multi year windowed Super Bowl team that's just getting started. He's gonna bail on that and the west coast to go to Texas?

Kelly can't even be hired by UT because he's still in his show cause window.

McCarthy isn't leaving GB. No way as long as Rodgers is there.

PPL are getting stupid with the names they throw out, agreed.

They think a guy who went to the Super Bowl last year is going to come coach JV [CFB]. Dumb.

---Dantonio FTW is my call. Why do I see this as obvious and he is barely getting any mentions?

I like Sean Payton. Always thought he should have been the Cowboys HC. Another Jerry Jones fuckup.....

Not that I don't think Jerry is a fuckup, but just exactly what was he supposed to do, fire Bill Parcells and promote the OC that had his playcalling duties taken from him?

Payton wasn't exactly a stud in Dallas, some of you forget.
