Ohio State and North Carolina are essentially allowed to have two coaching staffs up until the bowl gams. Meyer and Fedora, along with their staffs are allowed to recruit while the outgoing coaching staff coaches for the game.

Meanwhile, all of the other schools, who didn't break any rules have to split the duties of coaching and recruiting among their current staff.

What a fucking joke......

Nice punishment NCAA.......

I was wondering why Urban was making all these phone calls to recruits right off the bat when he should have not been allowed, OR he should have been prepping the team for the bowls...

LOL at him calling a bunch of committed recruits at UF, UGA and USCe already as well.

This, to me, is a non-story. Who really cares? When we play each other in a few years nobody is gonna look back and think that this exemption is the only reason why the game matters.

Oh yea? I promise you that 2-3 years from now people on the interwebs will be blaming every win on this exemption... :brick: right or wrong...

December is probably the biggest month for recruiting in the country. If one entire staff can devote themselves to ONLY recruiting without having to coach and monitor the team it is a huge advantage in closing on recruits. It likely will not matter too much at UNC, but with someone like Urban Meyer getting a full month to only recruit, it is definitely not fair to other teams.

It not gonna matter because the coach is coaching in a bowl game, and hasnt hired a staff yet.

Fedora is coaching in the game? Is he keeping Withers on?

He's coaching So. Miss. But regardless, if not given an exemption it wouldnt make sense. They're both interim coaches (Fickell, and Withers). Who would coach the teams if they werent given exemptions? A different interim? But its not like Fedora is gonna be able to commit all of his time to recruiting. He even said he hasnt seen a single play of our season, so if he didnt have time to do that before accepting the job i dont think he is gonna have to much extra free time to spend recruiting.

Depends.

What if both schools pull in huge recruiting classes and in a few years those recruits are All-Americans winning games against teams that aren't given the recruiting advantage of more staff?

Of course it is, your team is a huge benefactor of this clusterfuck. How would UNC and Swofford react if it were Clemson or FSU (perennial top 10 recruiting classes) being given this advantage?

dont see why they would care. how is it a drastic advantage...What should Carolina have done? Agreed to hire him, and just never made it official? Then we wouldnt need a waiver...

What do you expect after the crap they pulled last year with the Tat5 and the Sugar Bowl?

It's all about putting on a good show in the bowls.

Texas AM has an interim coach coaching in their bowl game...what happens if they hire Sumlin before then? Sumlin is not gonna be coaching in the bowl game, and is has nothing to do with making money and putting on a show. Its just illogical...

You are missing the point. Recruiting is based on very specific standards. Time, calls, visits and contact are all regulated. If an incoming staff is allowed to take over that role while the outgoing staff coaches the team, it allows for unlimited focus. In addition, in CFB, the size of the staff is regulated, coaches, GAs, etc... so when that is doubled for a month it allows for twice the spread o allocated contact. At UNC, the new staff is actually coaching the game, but at OSU, they are not so can focus only on recruiting while other staffs have to do both with half the staff.
