Of course it is. I also think it's far fetched to think that Seattle is as much better than Denver as the SB suggests. Good news, of course, is that we get to see further indications in a few weeks.

Honestly, when I went thru all my best case scenarios before the Super Bowl last year, NONE of them had Seattle destroying Denver the way they actually did.

Does that make Seattles 43-8 asswhooping of the Broncos a Fluke, of course it was fluky, but you can't take away the reality of the actual outcome, a 35 point, dominate in EVERY way, destruction of the NFL's best offense EVER.

Would they win again by 35, probably NO (but not a 0% chance).
But do believe that Seattle was clearly the better team, and would probably win again if they had to play again.

This is a new year, and preseason game number 1 means NOTHING to say that Denver showed that it could truly play with Seattle because they outscored the Seahawks in a preseason game.
Wonder what the line will be in week 3?

.

Just because its far fetched to believe that they would beat them by 35 every time they hypothetically play doesn't make it fluky that they did when they actually played.

Again, if Denver had won by three, would you roll your eyes if the Seattle Times said that it was fluky because the Hawks have the ability to beat them handily? I would.

To me the word "fluke" suggests an aberration or an outlier. Hard to call a three point loss a "fluke".

Like I wrote in my first post in this thread, however, I can see how it's disrespectful to characterize the Seattle win in the SB as merely a "fluke". I would never have written that. I don't have much trouble, though, understanding why a Denver sports writer wrote that.

Good post. Absolutely agree with all you wrote.

I'm guessing the line will be somewhere around Seattle -3.

Good luck ... Your gonna see what Seattle is all about at home... Manning is gonna be shuffling his feet getting knocked off his spots that night....

That's a prediction, not a fact. Ever heard of Ryan Clady?

You really think so? I actually think that he's got a valid point. That is, a thread on the general board deriding the Denver Post for characterizing the 35-point margin of victory in the SB as a "fluke" does strike me as a bit of "manufactured Seahawks outrage".

Yeah, I'm a hater...

You see me posting all the time about the Seahawks denouncing them or their fans? I read the OP & his pointless post. Why are you guys worrying about what a local paper wrote after a presason game? The reason is because you are looking for something to feel disrespected about.

It has become a habit among your fan base.

Should be a heck of a game. Everyone is looking forward to it. At the end of the day, this game is just one of many and it's not until the play offs that everyone plays sudden death and those are the games that matter...at least for those that make it there.

It is the off season, even with preseason games not a lot real football. As far as the OP goes it is more making fun of the media acting like this game proved anything, rather then feeling disrespected IMO.

I agree. Preseason games are usually pretty meaningless except when there is a psychological element to the game. Like this one was for Denver. Then they can serve as psychological boost when they play again in the regular season.

I admitted in this thread what I admitted after the SB, namely, that Seattle kicked Denver's ass. Assume that that indicates what happens in the future at your own peril. I'm informed enough to know that what happened last season is unlikely to repeat itself. We shall see. Week 3 is only a little more than a month away.

I absolutely agree with this. Denver didn't match Seattle's physicality in either the SB or its preseason game against them last year. They did last night. That certainly doesn't mean that Denver will win Week 3 at Seattle, but I definitely think it better enables them to do so.

Don't take this this to mean I worried about that game, but it is just one game in a long season. By the end of season injuries and such will change the whole picture most likely, as far as who has the best chance to win it all.

And I think Seattle wins that SB 9 out of 10 times. But I do believe how that game started had some fluke elements in it. You are likely never to going see a safety like that on the first offensive play of the game in the playoffs for a long while. Which basically gave Seattle the lead & possession to start both halves.

I'm not assuming that its going to be a repeat of the SB. I'm not saying anything even close to that.

But if we start to believe that sports results are flukes then any outcome of the week 3 matchup could be considered one. Any game really, ever.

I understand that, particularly the part about injuries. Luck and depth are imperative.

The reality of the NFL is that you don't get a ton of games- aberrations are bound to happen. We don't argue about who is a fluke team every year for no reason- there isn't all that much data in a given NFL season in reality compared to some other sports- not that they don't exist in say the NBA or MLB, just easier to weed out who is who, in my opinion.

Of course 2013 Seattle isn't 35 points better than 2013 Denver on most nights, but it did, in fact, happen. Probably a pretty strong bet 2013 Seattle is better than 2013 Denver, hence the SB domination, but that's it, they were better in one game- the SB which is all that matters in the end, no?

Secondly, has anyone else read the Denver Post sports section prior to the posting of this thread? Pretty clear what they are after from the get go. Do not read.
