TP -- How can you possibly not see this? Over the last 10 years -- here are the picks Detroit has spent on the WR position.
2003 -- #2 overall pick -- Charles Rogers, 6th round pick David Kircus
2004 -- #7 overall pick -- Roy Williams
2005 -- #10 overall pick -- Mike Williams
2007 -- #2 overall pick -- Calvin Johnson
2008 -- 5th round pick -- Kenneth Moore
2009 -- 3rd round pick -- Derrick Williams
2010 -- 7th round pick -- Tim Toone
2011 -- 2nd round pick -- Titus Young
2012 -- 2nd round pick -- Ryan Broyles
2013 -- 6th round pick -- Corey Fuller
Also signed Burleson to a 5 year 25 million dollar contract. He is gone now and they have signed Golden Tate to a 5 year 31 million dollar contract. Also traded a 5th round pick for Mike Thomas.
So in the past 10 years -- we have spent 4 1st round picks, 2 2nd round picks, 1 3rd round pick, 1 5th round pick, 1 6th round pick and 1 7th round pick. We have traded away a pick to get a WR and we have signed two of the top free agent WRs at the time.
You don't see the infatuation with the shiny new toy for the offense?

Nope, I see a drama hunter hard at work. I've come to the conclusion that a few of you are here for the drama, and just happen to like football enough to hang around...
I can make you a list -- it is quite easy. They have spent 0 1st round picks. 2 2nd round picks (one they converted to safety, the other has the most potential of any CB they have had in a while -- Darius Slay) and I believe 2 3rd round picks.
They have spent numerous pick at the back end of the draft but that is nothing more than trying to find a diamond in the rough.
They spent generously over and over on the WR position, both in the draft and in FA. More so than other other position on the team. Think about it -- we actually spent FOUR top 10 picks in 5 years on the WR position. FOUR. What did it get us?

Take your honolulu blue glasses off and let reality smack you in the face. Chasing the unstoppable offense isn't going to make you a Super Bowl contender. Spending high pick after high pick after high pick on Shiny new toys for the offense has gotten us where?
The only thing the Lions have is an exciting offense to watch and 1 winning seasons since the turn of the century. Yet we CONTINUE to make the same type of moves focusing on offense over and over. Detroit is like a broken record. Barry Sanders got sick of it and retired before his time. I wouldn't doubt in the least bit to see Calvin Johnson wanting to jump ship too in the near future.
Losing sucks and when you see the front office making the same mistakes over and over -- it doesn't make it any easier to get your team to the next level.

So what you're saying here is that Mayhew has drafted the exact same amount of WRs and CBs in the first three rounds? Inconceivable!Just for giggles I looked it up. Mayhew has drafted 5 wr's and 5 cb's.
WR:
2nd-2
3rd- 1
6th-1
7th-1
CB:
2nd-1
3rd-2
5th-1
6th-1
That is very even.
