Carter is a big physical corner that likes to hit. He will get in pursuit and be a strong run supporter. But he lacks athleticism and speed to work the slot. The slot is where the secondary really was lacking last year.

Carter reminds me of Spivey and like Spivey he seems more suited to safety than CB. Watched the ASU game and he was unremarkable. Maybe he showed enough to be coached up but I think he will be a special teams guy and depth in the defensive backfield.

The best thing he does have going for him is size and his willingness to get involved in hitting/run support.

Dude is addicted to fumbling.

Hands, as in catching the ball, he hasn't had a dropped ball in 2 years at Nebraska. Definitely not his hands running with the ball. He fumbled like 20 times in 53 games.

He ran a 4.51 at his pro day.

If you haven't noticed -- EVERYONE runs faster at their pro days. Devin Funchess ran a 4.7 at the combine and supposedly ran a 4.46 at his pro day. The combine is the place where everyone is on a level playing ground -- electronically timed, running under the exact same conditions, on the same surface, etc.

So I don't put much into pro day 40 times. This isn't a knock to Abdullah -- I feel the same about every players pro day times.

Ill take Ekpre-OloEkpre-Olomu next if he is available

Yeah -- he was a guy who they had going in the 1st two rounds until the knee injury before the Rose Bowl. He is a smaller corner, but he could fill the slot role nicely, once he is healthy.

Any RB they took was gonna be a situational runner in this offense. Bell is in play for at least another couple of years.

Agree here, but I just don't see Abdullah ever being anything but a situation back. I guess it all depends on what the Lions were looking for in a RB. If it was a home run hitter? I'm not sure how they let Tevin Coleman go by. If it was a guy to run between the tackles -- I would have went with Langford or Duke Johnson. If they were just looking for a back who can play a Sproles type of role and catch a ton of balls with limited carries -- Abdullah is the most polished back catching the ball.

Well -- I would have liked to see Grady Jarrett or Marcus Hardison, but it is nice to see them addressing the DT position.

Amazing that we had holes at OG, DT, CB and RB and the BPA all lined up accordingly. :pound:

Traded a 3 for Gabe Wright wtf

Rotoworld says:

Lions selected Auburn DT Gabe Wright with the No. 113 overall pick in the 2015 NFL draft.

Wright (6'3/300) was a two-year starter for the Tigers, posting 4.5 tackles for loss and one sack as a senior. He pumped 34 reps on the bench at the Combine, but managed a 5.07 forty, 26 1/2-inch vertical, and sluggish 8-foot-4 broad jump. Wright's lack of pass-rush production is a concern, and he was not a big-time run defender in college. A tweener interior presence, Wright's NFL ceiling is as a No. 3 or 4 tackle in a rotation.

Why not Grady Jarrett??

Well, we see four picks and all filled a need. Might not be the right guys in our minds. Mayhew seems to have a vision finally.

Or Philon. Mayhew didn't need to trade up for Carter or this guy

I know. Dude throws away draft picks like balls of lint out of his pockets.

What other DT's were still on the board? Bennett? Xavier Williams?

Yep. Not cool.

Knowing they have the 97th pick locked up next year. The other 3rd rounder was expendable for such needs. Giving up a pick for next year when you had no pick at all this year in that round seems okay with me.
