NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Lions coach Jim Caldwell's job is not safe.

Ownership reportedly wants to retain Caldwell, but they will leave the decision up to new GM Bob Quinn, who has no known ties to the veteran coach. The best arguments for retaining Caldwell are the Lions' turnaround over the second half of the season and the possibility of retaining OC Jim Bob Cooter and DC Teryl Austin, although Austin is a strong candidate for several head-coaching positions. Quinn could go his own way, however, making former colleagues Josh McDaniels and Matt Patricia interesting names to watch.

I think Quinn will be a good fit for the Lions

If Austin leaves. I wouldn't mind if Caldwell followed him.

Caldwell went 18-14. Not wow numbers. I think most of us agree that the most attractive part about keeping Caldwell was the idea of retaining JBC and or Austin, not so much Caldwell.

This is What my thoughts have been about Caldwell. I want the OC and DC. So if keeping him keeps them I was in.

I'd rather have Patricia than Mcdaniels if BQ wants to go that route. Although he's a 3-4 guy, so was Austin before coming to Detroit.

Some people believe that Quinn has his eye on Josh McDaniels as a head coach. But no decision on Caldwell yet.

I think it'd be great. McD with this O and Stafford is very enticing. He won with Tebow he can win with Stafford. He had nothing to work with in St. Louis so I don't even count it.

In fact, I'm kinda hoping this happens.

McD drafted Demaryious Thomas too.

Previous to the Denver vs Seattle Super Bowl:

McDaniels’ two seasons as the Denver Broncos’ head coach are mostly looked at as a joke, but the New England Patriots’ offensive coordinator helped build this season’s dominant Broncos, who are set to take on the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XLVIII, through the draft and free agency.

Six Broncos players remain from McDaniels’ 2009 and 2010 draft classes. Overall, the Broncos have 10 players on their roster whom McDaniels drafted or signed during his limited time in Denver. They aren’t just bit, role players, either.

McDaniels drafted the Broncos’ starting running back, two starting wide receivers and starting left guard, and he signed their starting left tackle and punter. Take a look at the players McDaniels brought in below.

RB Knowshon Moreno (2009, Round 1, Pick 12): 241 rushing attempts, 1,038 yards, 10 touchdowns, 60 catches, 548 yards, three touchdowns DE Robert Ayers (2009, Round 1, Pick 18): 29 tackles, 5.5 sacks, forced fumble FS David Bruton (2009, Round 4, Pick 114): 23 tackles P Britton Colquitt (2009 free agent): 65 punts, 2,893 yards, 44.5 average, 38.8 net average WR Demaryius Thomas (2010, Round 1, Pick 22): 92 catches, 1,430 yards, 14 touchdowns OG Zane Beadles (2010, Round 2, Pick 45): 16 starts at left guard WR Eric Decker (2010, Round 3, Pick 87): 87 catches, 1,288 yards, 11 touchdowns DT Kevin Vickerson (2010, free agent): 22 tackles, sack OT Chris Clark (2010, free agent): 14 starts at left tackle

Moar:

The Detroit Free Press reports "some people believe" that new Lions GM Bob Quinn is targeting Patriots OC Josh McDaniels as a head coach.

The Lions haven't made a decision on whether to retain Jim Caldwell, but there's an obvious Patriots connection between Quinn and McDaniels. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that Caldwell's job "isn't safe." McDaniels has turned down interviews ahead of New England's Divisional Round matchup, so the Lions can take their time on Caldwell's future. Caldwell's schemes/principles have looked largely outdated, with Detroit's offense ranking in the bottom-half of the league this year despite a strong finish. With Adam Gase going to Miami, McDaniels and Hue Jackson are the top offensive coaches available.

I like the hire not being in house but the people whom are anointing him the second coming need to calm down as well.

If They do not hire McDaniels they should give the Job to Austin. He would keep JBC and hire a DC. Thats the best scenario I can think of. Keeping the status quo would be 3rd.
