Simmons, Maye, and Williams all getting tagged weakens the safety market quite a bit

I will delicately walk to the end of a willow switch/branch and claim the Lions will be signing LAR S John Johnson.

ROGER GOODELLCOM, NFL

Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio reports the NFL salary cap will "at most be $183 million."

The floor is currently set at $180 million, and the final number should be announced very shortly with free agency quickly approaching. Each dollar counts with teams heading into the free agency period with less cap space than ever, but with TV deals on the table, the NFL should rebound quickly. Dak Prescott's front-loaded mega deal is a sign that the 2022 salary cap will be significantly higher than this year's. Free agents could opt for more one-year contracts in hopes of signing lucrative long-term deals after the salary cap climbs.

Brad Holmes, you are earning a lack of second guessing already.

Preciate that.

Real impressed with the not using a tag on Kenny G.

As much as I had hopes/dreams he'd place the tag/trade on him, Kenny would've had to sign that first before any possibility of a trade. It could've back fired.

Holmes did the right thing.

Now let's hop the Lions don't spend big money on FA this year. Everything should be short term or unproven players.

What if Marcus Williams hadn't been tagged ?

Wouldn't have been big, big money, but 12-13M for a S is, I guess.

I wonder if there is any chance we can get Larson back. He is a Campbell kind of player.

At 24 he is young enough to be a part of a rebuild I think. Or other excuses that make it seem like I don't have a double standard for players I liked in college.

Nah. You're fairly adept at keeping any biases at bay.

I didn't read your wanting him as a double standard.

Not only is this draft weak in pass rushing iDL so is FA iDL- outside of paying a boatload of money and that isn't happening.

My lean to, if we had money, would've been NYG Dalvin Tomlinson and Shelby Harris.
The former will get paid a lot.
Harris is probably good for 25-30 snaps a games from what I read.

I am pretty sure this is the year that Hand stays healthy and plays to the potential he showed. For real this time

They have told Trufant he will be cut, the amount saved is about what Williams contract.
