Nicklas Lidstrom Rejoins Former Team
(DETROIT) AP - Things are looking up in the Motor City.
Detroit is on the verge of not making the playoffs for the first time in nearly a quarter of a century. Their luck may be about to change.
Hall of Famer and Gold Medal winner Nicklas Lidstrom (turning 46 later this month) is coming out of retirement and joining his former team.
"There is only so much you can take," said the 7-time Norris Trophy Winner. "I didn't think there was any way for me to compete in the game in this day and age, but watching the defense this summer has made me realize I quit way too soon."
Defense has been Detroit's Achilles' heel all season long.
When approached for comment via phone, head coach Jeff Blashill let out an audible sigh and said, "There is a God."
