First thing is they had back to back picks in the first round at 5 & 6 and these idiots decided to draft 2 PGs.

Now here is the real funny part. They selected Johnny Flynn over Steph Curry lmao

The worst part was there were a ton of very good PG's in that draft as well. The next 4 PG's off the board after Curry were Brandon Jennings, Jrue Holiday, Ty Lawson and Jeff Teague.

The 2009 NBA Draft was actually a pretty good one. Top to bottom, there are a few superstars, some allstars/borderline allstars and role players. Here's some others in that draft:

Superstars: Blake Griffin, James Harden, Steph Curry
Allstars - Demar Derozan, Jeff Teague
Good Starters - Tyreke Evans, Brandon Jennings, DeMarre Carroll, Danny Green, Ricky Rubio
Other notables - Jordan Hill, Gerald Henderson, Darren Collison, Taj Gibson, Patrick Beverley, Patty Mills, Jodie Meeks, etc.

I love revisionists... :L

Flynn was supposed to be the placeholder until Rubio was ready to come over after his contract was up in Europe. Rubio, of course, was boom or bust with a higher ceiling and Flynn was a combo guard that would move to the 2.

Drafts are a crapshoot. They are dumb for picking two PG's, but how the hell were they supposed to know the skinny kid from Davidson was going to become a star?

I thought it was dumb to take Flynn over Curry. But I never would have thought Flynn would have been a total bust. I liked him coming out of college and figured him in a role similar to what Isaiah Thomas is now.

Yeah. Looking back on the decision, we can all say that it was stupid, but it is really hard to foresee how a player's college talents will translate to the NBA.

Who knows if I would've done any better... but yeah... that Flynn over Steph could become the new Bowie over Jordan.

Yeah, that Flynn pick was bad, imagine the T-Wolves with Curry right now.

Yeah, but Curry was an obvious stud in college. They had Bobby Knight look at his film on ESPN and he said that Curry was a great passer with no one to pass to. The only knock on him was on the defensive end. Flynn was always a bad pick.

Hasheem Thabeet was a colossal bust, though, and seemed like a reach at the time because Memphis was desperate for a big man. Boy do things change quickly.

The Wolves have made a number of bad picks, we can all look back and see now that Flynn was a mistake but i'm not convinced Curry would be as good as he is now if he was drafted by the Wolves! Not to mention he probably would have forced the club to trade him by now anyhow so...

By this point, Kahn was over his head. His responsibility was to clear cap space left over from the KG years... and he did a good job at that... but Flynn was supposed to develop and shift to the 2 once Rubio was coming over.

Rubio did have a higher ceiling AND experience from playing against the pros. Guys came back from the Olympics raving about the kid...

Again, this is all revisionist. Who's to say that Love and Steph would've meshed?

Revisionist means that we are changing our opinion about something. The Wolves draft strategy always seemed odd to me. The Wolves are in good shape moving forward, though, assuming they hit on one of their next 2 drafts.

Klay Thompson is the player that I think almost no one saw coming.

the knock on Rubio always has been and still is his shooting.

Flynn was in no way shape or form ever a SG- he cant shoot from 3, and had really poor size.

I would have taken Steph just because at the very least he could have hit 3's and helped Rubio that way.

I thought Rubio was the best prospect at PG at the time of the draft. I thought Brandon Jennings would be a dynamic player and a better PG prospect than Curry. I thought Curry could be pretty much what JJ Redick is today. I had no idea that in addition to being a prolific shooter, that he would turn into a great ball handler and passer. His skills as a creator and distributor are vastly underrated by those who don't get to see him on a nightly basis.

I did think that Taj Gibson was going to be a very solid player though. I thought the Warriors might have a shot at him in the early second round that year, but he went in the first.

Kinda hard for me to laugh at the Timberwolves after the Warriors shitty draft history and free agent blunders. Patrick O'Brien, Todd Fuller, Chris Washburn. I am so glad those days are gone
