What are the chances that the Raiders move to Las Vegas? And if they are, will it be in 2017?

I'm sure the NFL is running focus groups right now to determine what looks better - moving now and ending relocations or having a 3rd team in as many years relocate next year.

A San Diego City councilman has already said he would contact the Raiders to see if they would consider San Diego, and a recent poll shows many fans would adopt the previously hated team if San Diego is in front of their name. However there's zero chance the NFL allows the Los Angeles Chargers and San Diego Raiders to exist, and it appears he could get a better deal in Vegas anyway. Last thing the NFL wants is for the Raiders to become the most popular team in SoCal (which they probably are already) and not even have them in LA.

Now that would be to funny. To see the Chargers move to LA and the Raiders to SD.

The only thing that would stop the Raiders from going to Vegas, is when the owners vote. Everything else is a done deal.

Agree 100%. This past Thursday or Friday it was mentioned the NFL said the Raiders can move without Sandy Alderson being involved, taking out any gaming connections. The land is there, the financing is there, and the stadium plan is there. The last hurdle is the Owners and a few big dog owners support the move.

Al Davis would be working the phones like a boiler room salesman if he was still alive.

This has to have him smiling from wherever he is

So with it being official that the Raiders are going to file papers to move to Vegas I guess I just have one question...Does this hurt them over the next 2 years as they continue to play in Oakland for fan attendance? From what I understand they have decided to stay in Oakland until the stadium is ready. With fans knowing they are moving are they less likely to want to go to games?

Hmmm they can't play at UNLV while the stadium gets built?

This sucks for the Raider faithful. But I think it's great for everyone else. More opposing fans will visit. Those Raider fans from outside the bay area will likely make a trip or two now. Vegas wins. Davis wins.

Well I've read that they have decided to stay for 2 more years. They figure more seats available type thing.

Damn I thought UNLV held more than 40k? That is a big difference the Collesium holds 63k.

Yeah I was a bit shocked they decided to stay. I'm shocked that Vegas is letting them stay as that is money lost for the city.

It will be interesting to see what tickets will go for in the new Raider stadium?
NE plays at Oakland next year. I was hoping they would play in Vegas next year.

I thought I remember something about a rule the NFL put in place that said a team can move to another city but they can't take the team name with them. Which is why Tennessee is the Titans and not the Oilers. I think it stemmed from Baltimore forever losing the Colts and LA losing the Rams for so many years. Would the Raiders move if they have to give up the Raider name?

St Louis and San Diego moved and kept their names. Of course both were LA in the past. The Ravens name was more about Cleveland suing for the name, basically told Modell he could move his team but the BROWNS were staying. Tennessee changed because "Oilers" had nothing to do with the state or city. There is no rule stating names cant move.

If that happens, the Raiders should just change their name to the California Raiders. It would make it much simpler once they move back to Oakland again.

True, but they only drew 57.3K per home game on average this past season (second to last, behind the Chargers). That number will only decrease with the knowledge that the team has already committed to leaving.

I've been following the Raiders move to Vegas very closely and its going to happen. Some NFL owners had concerns over Casino Magnate Sheldon Adelson funding the stadium and being involved, but just recently Goldman Sachs said they would be willing to take Adelson's place and finance the construction of the stadium.

It was inevitable Vegas was going to get an NFL team and the Raiders are the perfect fit for Vegas. Not only does Vegas have a ton of Raiders fans already, but they will have fans in LA driving to Vegas for weekends to watch the game. I can see a lot of players wanting to play in Vegas as the state has no income tax and most NFL players party there anyways.

San Diego would be a great fit for the Raiders...ask ExChargers's Fan how many were here for Raiders games and how many live here... He'll, 25% of my coworkers are Raider Fans. The ones we didn't check arrest records on, anyway.

San Diego is making a legal move, maybe, in that direction.
