They better keep the Athletics name... It started in Philly in 1901 and survived the move to KC in '54 and Oakland in '67... I can't imagine them changing the name.

I wouldn't mind if they got rid of the green...
Yeah adopting the colors of the Raiders or Knights would be cool.

A's pitching right now:

7.97 ERA, 53 ERA+, 1.76 WHIP, 50 home runs allowed (most in AL), 5.4 BB/9, 7.3 K/9, 1.35 K/BB

Only two pitchers with a K/BB above 2.00... and two of them are relievers. The league K/BB is 2.56. And this team pitches in one of the most pitcher friendly ballparks.

How can you be -103 after only 22 games? Think about that, that's astronomical! That's over -5 every game on average.....

Rooker and Aguilar go back-to-back twice. When's the last time two hitters did that twice in a game?

Those colors have been there the whole time too. They ain't changing that either.
I love their unis.

One of my favorites, well, a few of my favorites. I like the sleeveless and the all green jerseys.

But they’ve only been Green and Gold since the early 60’s, when they were in KC.

They were blue or blue and red before that.

Charlie Finley made the move. Might’ve been one of the first things he did. Idk. I forget the story.

Still we agree it would be a mistake to change them

Actually they haven't been there the whole time. It wasn't until near the end in KC they changed to the Green and Yellow.

An update of their colors will do them good if they move to Vegas. And I guarantee owners will do anything for additional marketing revenue.
Anyway whatever they decide, the biggest thing is they need out of Oakland. If not that franchise will continue to be a joke.

I think they said that was the first time it has happened for the A's. Not even McGwire and Canseco did it. The other thing is they did it in two straight at bats and their third time around they both flied out to deep center field.

While we're on the subject of the A's... they look pretty awful this year. If that 18-3 score holds they'll already have a -100 run differential. It's only April 22nd.

But But Moneyball

There's a difference between trying to build a competitive roster with a low payroll and not trying to build a competitive roster with a low payroll. Look at the Rays, they've done a great job locking up players pre-arbitration and they even locked up Franco to that massive extension. Don't see the A's doing that. The Rays are a much better example of Moneyball right now.

The Rays are probably the best run organization in all baseball.

speaking of low payroll teams, the Bucos and the Orioles are both 16-8 so far. Who'd a thunk it? Rematch of 1971?

One area the Rays are excelling in where Oakland has failed for 25 years is finding and developing international talent. Oakland won the Cespedes sweepstakes 12 years ago. Before that you might have to go back as far as Miguel Tejada for an example of one they actually developed who made a difference for them.

One thing that's going well for Oakland right now is Brent Rooker. Hitting .313/.433/.685 with 6 home runs and a 12:12 BB:K ratio in 67 PA.

And Tejada was back when they just pumped average players full of kerosene and pretended they had a good workout program.
