It doesn't look all that bad. They could be playoff bound, it really comes down to what Kobe and Nash can contribute. I do not think Kobe will be hesitant, my fear would be that he will run the wheels off again.

I think this is a low seeded playoff team assuming health (which is a big assumption with this team). Their offense should be improved. They've built a team better suited to run a D'Antoni offense. Their defense won't be that good though. If Kobe, Gasol, and Nash stay healthy all season, then this is a playoff team. These guys can still play.

Compared to at least 7-9 other teams in the West, it sure doesn't look that good.

They could be playoff bound,

They need a lot of things to go there way combined Kobe being Kobe, and other teams to sustain injuries.
All things being equal, they are on the outside looking in.

it really comes down to what Kobe and Nash can contribute.

The NBA isn't designed for 40 year old starting PG's.

If Kobe didn't learn anything from last seasons attempted heroics, he will more then likely be injury riddled a lot during this season.

Nobody beats father time.

37-45 will be the Mistakers record in 2013-14. The Celtics will easily outpace that record. Word.

I disagree that they'll need other teams to sustain injuries. This is a playoff team assuming health.

The Lakers have been pretty smart with how they've built this roster. The team should be fun to watch and could gran a 6-8 seed in the playoffs. It depends on the health of Kobe, Nash and Gasol and also how the role players respond to playing out 1 year deals trying to earn more.

Best case scenario: This is team is built more for a D'Antoni offense than last years team, the players on 1 year deals play like they want to be re-signed and this team makes the playoffs with a 2nd round exit. They then go into the next off-season with some guys worth re-signing and see what they can get out of the free agent market. If they land Lebron, unlikely as I believe he stays in Miami (and not because of Kobe as much as Turnup and Mont want that to be the reason), they sign a couple of solid FA's and focus on 2015.

Worst case scenario: Some combination of Kobe, Nash and Pau all struggle with injuries, the role players don't work out and they end up in the lottery. They then go into the next off-season with a lottery pick and a ton of cap space.

Can you imagine the screaming, crying and gnashing of teeth (especially from Turnup, Mont and Crotch) if they got the #1 pick? The resultant meltdowns would burn down the internet!! :becky:

Translation: I know the Celtics are going into hibernation for another 20+ years. Please let the Lakers join us for at least a season or 2!! It's all I have left!!

It's okay Crotch, in about 20 years the C's will have another 1 title "dynasty" with Rajon Rondo as your GM!!

The Celtics have a bunch of crap on their team besides Rondo. How exactly will they be better than the Lakers?

Don't worry rule, Crotch will let us know in about 2 weeks when he starts his "Rondo and Sullinger lead the Celtics to the title" thread!!

Too funny. I actually think the Lakers will make the playoffs. And I do think Kobe, as old as he is, will recover and also get a new contract soon enough (it will be >$20/per). It wont be a memorable season for the Lakers, but it will be a season. Clippers will rule LA for the next few years.

Opinions on Boston vary. I dont think they get to .500 this year, with Rondo out and probably kept out until january. I think this is an eval year for the coach, his coaches, the draftees and young ones, and Danny will look to move the older vets. Dont really know all his transitions moves, but he will have options.

The roster is actually not too bad we filled in spot rosters that definetly needed more shoothing, Athleticism & Perimeter defense with the signings of Young,Wesley & Farmar...now lets see with the return of Coach Rambis if we can improve are defense on the court since we all know Antonni is a fucken idiot!:L

No playoffs, though I believe Kobe would still lead the league in free throw shooting and attempts, to keep him relevant. It is good business for the NBA.

First of all. I don't view the Lakers as anywhere near one of the worst teams in the league.
I simply, honestly, can make a strong case by looking at the other rosters in the West and see them failing to crack the top 8.
I don't see how anyone, barring injuries, could not pencil in 7 teams ( Clippers, Spurs, Ok City, Rockets, Grizzlies, Nuggets, Warriors).
That leaves 1 spot.

As far as IF the Lakers are in the lottery and happen to defy the odds and win it, why would I care?
I hope whoever wins it is a team in the WC.
I hope WC teams end up with the first 8 picks, matter of fact!

I am not going to pencil in the Nuggets, new coach, lost Iggy.

I will put them as the front runner in the following group going after the final 2 spots though:

Denver
Minnesota
Dallas
LA
Utah

In that order

The reason I penciled them is was because they have such a huge regular season home court advantage.

They rack up wins by usually having a favorable schedule where visiting teams are often flying in from different time zones and dealing with back to backs and the altitude.

Not that those teams don't try to win, but if ever there was a night to 'fuck it', it is on those nights.
