"Pursue" is an ambiguous word. It doesn't necessarily mean they won't try and sign him. It may just mean they won't try really hard in doing so. Or at least I'm hoping.
I dunno. :noidea:

Then wtf was Rex Ryan doing having dinner with him last night?

Forfeiting a draft pick would be my first guess. But if you were going to burn a draft pick, ehy not just select him in the 7th round.

The more I look at it, the more IM thinking this kid may be too hot for us no matter the situation.

He better be slapped with something.

Lot of missing info still about this. Very, very odd.

He wasn't having dinner with him at his home or on campus, but some Italian joint. If he came out here in LA, some Korean restaurants I know would really keep these meetings under wraps. :)

More updates on La'el . . . we are twiddling our thumbs . . .

Sources: Super Bowl champion New England Patriots latest in list of teams pursuing ex-LSU lineman La'el Collins

A new team has emerged in the race to sign LSU offensive lineman La’el Collins: the reigning Super Bowl champions.

The New England Patriots have contacted Collins and are “very” interested in the ex-Redemptorist star, multiple sources confirmed to The Advocate.

News of the Patriots’ interest comes a day after The Advocate reported meetings Collins had planned with the Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins. Collins met with Bills coach Rex Ryan in Baton Rouge on Monday night. He’s set to meet with the Dolphins on Tuesday.

Former LSU stars and current Dolphins players Jarvis Landry and Anthony Johnson posted photos of themselves en route to Baton Rouge to meet with Collins, a sure-fire first round draft pick who’s now an undrafted free agent.

Nearly every NFL team has contacted Collins over the last few days, multiple sources said. The Baltimore Sun reported Tuesday that Collins' agents have begun calling teams and telling them "who's in" and "who's out."

Collins met with Baton Rouge homicide detectives Monday morning, capping a week of speculation about when he would answer questions as part of an investigation into the killing of a 29-year-old woman and her baby.

Police said Collins “fully cooperated with investigators and is still not considered a suspect” in the April 24 slaying of Brittney Mills and her son Brenton, who was successfully delivered after the shooting but died a week later.

The mere association with the investigation spooked NFL teams. Collins went undrafted in 256 picks in the seven-round draft.

Starting to think either Collins really had nothing to do with this OR he is a complete numb skull. Because if he did have something to do with it, he would have to know even with a rock solid alibi, his name would be the first to come up and the police are likely doing thier damndest to tie him to it.

If he didn't have anything to do with it, what a huge sheet sandwich he had to swallow. The guy would've made millions if not for this horrendously timed tragic turn of events. I think the NFL should allow him to enter a supplemental draft or something like it where he can slot himself with other draft picks to earn what he should have had this not happened. Or they should loosen if not exempt him from the UDFA rules and allow some type of bidding for his services as if he was a UFA.

La'el Collins drawing interest from Eagles, per report - Bleeding Green Nation

The Eagles, who didn't both to draft an o-lineman, are now interested in Collins. I'm sorry, but how can we not be interested in this guy? I get the DV and perhaps other off-field issues he has. But given our desperate need for o-lineman and his first-round blocking talent, we can't be that short-sighted to pass on this guy. That's especially true if one of our division rivals gets a hold of him. How sickening would that be?

I'm guessing he signs with the pats, they have no problem with taking troubled players.

If he did have something to do with it, he IS a complete numbskull.

I actually find myself feeling somewhat sorry for him (assuming he is innocent). It appears he got screwed royally in this fiasco. My bet is that we have contacted his agent and are feeling the situation out.

Collins and his agent have pretty much eliminated 20 of the 32 NFL teams. Collins will not sign with a team that's trying to build or rebuild, he wants to play on a winning team.

He had dinner with Rex Ryan Monday night and the Miami Dolphins sent a couple of players to Baton Rouge to attempt to convince him to sign with the Dolphins.

Reports this morning say that Bill Belichick called him and had a long conversation and then spoke with his agent.

Well Mr. Collins, if you really want to play on a winning team..............how does 4 time Super Bowl Champs and 13 time Division Champs in the past 15 years sound??

The only chance we have to sign him is to sell him on the idea of being part of rebuilding the Hogs and the glory that may come with that. I really dont see much of a chance of us signing him. There does seem to be many odd things about this. I almost hope he is guilty to so he isnt being screwed for nothing.

If I'm his agent, I advise him to go to a team where he can start immediately. This is his path to the payday down the road. If he goes to a team that already has a solid line and sees only marginal playing time, his value in the next contract will be minimized. Look for a winner on the next contract. ThIs one is all about proving you are a player that will be in demand.
