Gotta give yourself chances.

Opportunity cost dude.

plus it's just value.

This is an insane overpay.
Yes, it's an overpay. You can over pay and still get exactly what you want/need to better your team in the future. I dont think Boston lost this trade, as much as Cleveland just won it more.

Isaiah Thomas talking about Kevin Love a few years back:

I'm being a homer hopeful here, but stuff like this makes me think that the chemistry that never seemed to develop between LeBron/Kyrie/Love just might have a shot at happening with LeBron/IT/Love

You're going to love IT. No pun intended.

I think this is a very good point

Crowder was expendable--- he is much more valuable to the Cavs than he was to the Celtics considering Tatum and Brown.

Considering the Celtics still have the Lakers pick--- giving up the Brooklyn pick hurts- but it doesnt gut their assets.

The Celtics because of how they hoarded assets had the assets to overpay for Kyrie and not gut their system.

ITs why its so important to build up that asset base....some teams dont understand that.

Totally disagree.

You can't keep everything. It's a superstar driven league. They finally have a legit NBA superstar.

Irving is hands down better than Thomas.

The reason it didn't work is because Irving and Lebron are ball dominant. And by not working, meaning Love didn't get to fulfill his full potential in the role he has. IT, although he probably gets along with Love more, is going to be in the exact same position. He's ball dominant and is going to have to figure that part out with Lebron while also factoring Love in with his touches. Same exact thing happened in Miami with Bosh as it related to Wade and Lebron, whom are both ball dominant.

i couldnt believe that irving wasnt talking to guys during the playoffs

what was that about? how did that not come out? it just makes no sense....i dont get it.....its just too strange....

did Kyrie really resent lebron that much?

Yeah, its strange. I know that early on in their first year together there was a good amount of friction between LeBron and Kyrie. At one point they had a talk about it .

It seemed like they worked it out and were good, but in retrospect it seems that Kyrie just got quiet and dealt with it for awhile.

That's on the court stuff, and I don't necessarily disagree. I'm talking more off the court chemistry.

I will say that I think that IT is more willing playmaker/distributor than Kyrie.

Probably been pointed out, but I can't catch up on 20+ pages of comments:

Just shows how much of a shit deal the Pacers got for Paul George. There is the added factor of Kyrie having multiple years left on his deal, but even half of this deal would have still been much better than Oladipo and Sabonis.

If the Celtics didn't get a guarantee from Mr. Flat Earth that he'll sign a long term deal Ainge should be smacked in the face w/ a shillelagh for making this trade.

It remains to be seen if Cleveland won it.

If the Nets are decent and this pick ends mid-late lottery and Thomas walks in free agency? The Cavs will have gotten creamed.

Cleveland is assuming risk to be sure.

Maybe so.

From all accounts (at least with Wiggy's spamming), I didn't see off the court chemistry being the problem with Cavs. With the exception of Lebron's passive aggressive tweeting.

According to Marc Spears, the Cavs tried for a Kyrie - Klay Thompson swap. Warriors said no.

Man, that would've resulted in some CRAZY drama. Can you imagine if that happened and the met in the Finals again?

No they don't.

Unless you're referring to Hayward.

Then maybe.

Heh... I'm teaching opportunity cost in Econ class today.

Good use of the term in a sports discussion form.

#economicsiseverywhere

you can use Danny's stupidity in a perfectly relevant lesson today.

This would have been such a horrible, horrible trade for the Warriors. Really would have set them back immensely.

Yeah, there's just not nearly enough potential upside to risk taking an all-time great team and shaking things up. Makes no sense for them.

Plus, while Kyrie might be the better 1st option than Klay, Klay is a million times better as a 3rd option than Kyrie. He's great without needing the ball - which is exactly what you want when Curry and Durant are already on the team.

If true about the Kyrie for Thompson offer from Cleveland, this would be the second reporting of a major player being offered to the Warriors for Klay. Execs around the league must think the Warriors will part with him eventually and are trying to pry him away. Paul George, at least from a fit perspective, would have been much better than Kyrie, but not an upgrade based on the system the Warriors play.

It'll be an interesting situation to monitor if the offers keep rolling in for Klay. I want to say the Warriors will keep him because Klay hasn't shown any indication that he wants a larger role and/or more money.
