Amir Johnson was the starter, not Olynyk.

Johnson sucked a bag. Olynyk was a useful bench scorer who struggled with consistency. No big loss. Tatum/Brown will be much better.
at PF? Tatum and Brown?

One crazy thought that might work, depending on IT's willingness...

Make Derrick Rose the starter and bring IT off the bench. IT would still get more minutes overall, this would just be to align his minutes more with the bench than with LeBron/Love.

Cavs bench scoring has been a big issue, this would solve that and IT would be in basically the same role he had in Boston.

I agree that would be the way to go.

Thomas wouldn't like it. He wants a brinks truck full of money after this season. You don't get that by coming off the bench.

at PF? Tatum and Brown?

As a replacement for Olynyk. Whatever position you want to label him as. He didn't defend or rebound like a PF. He played offense like a SF.

Olynky is a 7 footer with the wingspan of a guy 6'8. Tatum will be the guy that fills the role of what Olynyk did.

yeah, I dont know much of Zizic, but i hear he is more than a throw in, and the unsung guy in this trade

He looked lost in Summer League. His stock took a hit.

He's a legit 7 footer with real offensive skill. Was a first round pick in 2016 that played a year overseas. Everyone said he'd have been a lottery pick in the 2017 draft.

lol....are you serious?
how are you 7 feet with a 6' 8" wingspan? lol.....

if you could use 1 word to describe Olnyk's defensive prowess, what would it be?

Hypothetically, if the Cavs swapped TT, Shump, and the BKN pick for 1 of:

Marc Gasol
DeAndre Jordan
DeMarcus Cousins

Does that put them on the same tier as the Warriors?

improves their odds, and i HATE admitting that...

dangling that 1 pick just might be huge...

Yea Thomas won't be too keen on that.

A thought on the Celts, I wonder if they'll explore having Smart bring the ball up and having Kyrie and Hayward at the 2 and 3 spots at times. Marcus has proven he can pass, that might be tough to stop.

No, this trade is a dumpster fire. It's a minimal upgrade giving up premium assets.

Danny got fleeced.

RPM.

Or this one here:
Do The Celtics Have Enough Star Power To Win a Title? Not Yet.

There wans't much of an upgrade over the next 2 years.

So, on one hand, you say he's a terrible drafter who blew the Smart, Brown and Tatum picks.

On the other hand, the terrible drafter blew the future of the franchise by getting rid of a 2018 lottery pick for a 25 year old stud who was the top pick in the draft 6 years ago?

The road. You're all over it.

A couple of sites say that Baynes will be starter -- and Morris the cunchtime guy in small ball lineup.

I don't know much about him so that very well may be true now that Crowder is gone.

He puts forth effort. Everybody does in Stevens' system. But there is nothing that he is good at, other than shooting and running the floor.

He's a useful bench scorer. And a well liked locker room guy.

Yeah, I suspect they'll flip flop ball-handling duties the way they did last year.

Isaiah Thomas talking about Kevin Love a few years back:

“Kevin and his dad Stan, they would come pick me up and I would stay the weekend at his house so I could play on that AAU team. It’s something that me and Kevin, we’ll talk about. It’s crazy that we’re both in the NBA and he is at the level he’s at, and I’m doing pretty well. To be able to say that I used to go to his house every other weekend and stay the night, and his parents used to cook dinner, and all that type of thing, it’s crazy to see that.”

I'm being a homer hopeful here, but stuff like this makes me think that the chemistry that never seemed to develop between LeBron/Kyrie/Love just might have a shot at happening with LeBron/IT/Love

Hayward, Irving, Horford, Smart, Tatum, Brown, Rozier and Morris vs. LeBron, Love, Isiah, JR, TT, Rose, Korver, Green, Shumpert, Frye, Jefferson...
Gotta take the Cavs.

Heh... I'm teaching opportunity cost in Econ class today.

Good use of the term in a sports discussion form.

It does nothing for me in terms of the cavs chance against the warriors. IT is easier to defend than Irving.

Honestly, for both teams this seems like a lateral move...CLE and BOS probably still meet in the ECF and CLE will will win.

As far as the finals are concerned...IT was somewhat of a DEF liability in BOS and I think he'll be a DEF liability in CLE as well...that's not good enough to beat GS...I guess it's money or ego, but why wouldn't CLE look to add DWade?
