Actually it hasn't been bad the last couple seasons.
What's Wade's role if he goes there?
He's not handling the ball.
He's not a great shooter.
He's not a great defender.
Is he starting?
i think its obvious he would come off the bench and be the slasher/playmaker surrounded by shooters--- an ideal role for him.

Chicago and Miami had shit 3 pt shooting around him in the past--- he will see the most open lanes he has seen in years.

and im not saying Wade would be an all star- far from it--- but he could DEFINITELY help the Cavs coming off the bench and making sure those scoring droughts dont occur when LBJ is on the bench---- something that Irving didnt do as well as I thought he would at.

The finals will be hard to root for anyone.

Don't want it to be clear as day Danny messed up.....even though it is now.

But Durant is such an ignorant jackass that I don't want them to win either .

Come on Houston....get your crap together. How did you do nothing with 10m in non-guaranteed deals?

You think Ainge messed up by getting the best player in the deal for a guy who was a year away from walking in free agency?

the minute he whined his way out of a 5 year contract after 2 years --- WHILE hes getting paid the max money- WHILE he was making Finals after Finals--

obviously he is still pure electricity to watch on the court--- he is the funnest player in the league to watch because he is prob the most versatile scorer in the league-- hes INCREDIBLY clutch and thrives under the pressure----

but yah--- whine your way out of a 5 year contract after 2 years- when you are getting paid max money while making finals after finals will change your perspective about a guy-- as a person anyway- not as a player

as a player- offensviely- Durant is prob better- but thats it.

Going from awful to bad on the defensive end is the extremely minor upgrade I was talking about. The size of the holes on the sieve don't make that big of a difference on defense in the NBA anymore IMO. You either make up for it with team defense or you don't.
IT is such a weak link on defense that he breaks the integrity of a team defense as a whole.

This was made ruthlessly clear in the Chicago series. Chicago, a subpar offensive team, was able to target IT over and over and over again.

Irving is not a good defender, but he is not the huge target that IT is.

This is not a small deal, IMO, as you make it out to be.

I cannot believe how bad Danny got hosed here.

It's an embarrassment.

The season is already over.

Even if you somehow make the finals, you earn the right to be swept by GS for 2 years and then fall back into irrelevancy as a mid tier east team.

Their ceiling is the 4th best team in the NBA (tops in the east, but behind GS, HOU and SA).
Absolutely pointless move.

I don't know about hosed. I think it moves them closer to the Cavs and gives them a better shot at getting past them than they had last year.

However, you are correct in that it doesn't get them close to the Warriors.

They had to start somewhere though. They now have a good core of young guys and still have assets that can be used for other moves.

Isaiah might be limping away in free agency. The trade was all about Isaiah's contract and hip.

Last year Wade .310, J.R. .351 BTW.

Overall better player. Smarter Player. Team player.
Give me Wade any day of the week.
and be real

Jr shot .500 from 3 in the playoffs.....during the regular season he dealt with injuries and the premature birth of his daughter.

the year before he shot 40% from 3...the year before he shot 39% from 3 with the Cavs

ill bet you whatever you want that Smith shoots better than 35% from 3 this year....he will rain triples - just as he has.

J.R. took something like 3 times as many 3-point shots and that's the lowest 3P% he's had in 5 seasons. .310 is the second-highest that Wade has had in his career and he shot .159 from 3 the year before.

Of course Wade is the better overall player but sometimes you need a guy to fill a specific role.

Kyrie Irving is the most versatile scorer in the league?
I think so

his mid range game is one of the best in the league--- he finishes at the basket as good if not better than anyone--- his money from 3

he has no weakness offensively- AVery Bradley said he was the hardest player to guard--- if you play up on him he goes by you- if you sag off him he drills a 3 in your face. He can pull up in mid range extremely well too.

its just the fact that he has no interest in playing defense that holds him back

After reviewing all the components to this trade, perusing the advanced metrics, and looking over the experts analysis, the only rational and logical conclusion that I can come to is that as a Sixers fan, Cleveland easily won this trade....

Disagree, even if Ainge somewhat sells it to the Celtics fan base who thought IT was more than he is.

This trade was about the Celtics acquiring a legitimate superstar in this league.

I was NERVOUS when i saw what the Pacers got for George and - even what the Bulls got for Butler....

thought the Cavs would be forced to make a bad leveraged trade.

Somehow they came out of it in great shape.

Danny said Kyrie fits the Celtics' timeline better than IT.

My guess is were looking at 3 years to compete. Kyrie and Hayward still theoretically in their prime, Brown and Tatum coming into their own, and hopefully a collapse from GS and Cle.

Obviously more pieces are likely needed, but Danny has time to figure that out.

Nobody is competing with GS for the time being, to include the CAVS, so I'm fine with this.

I think you'd start Wade. You'd roll out IT, Wade, LeBron, Love, TT. But how much Wade or the other guys play is going to depend on the matchups. You can get through the regular season with Wade playing 30 minutes per game because Cleveland should be dominating a lot of the competition and his minutes shouldn't matter. Not sure what it would look like come playoff time.

How does IT, J.R., Wade, LeBron, Love match up against Curry, Thompson, Iguodala, Durant, Green? Not very well when you consider there's not one to really defend Curry or Thompson. So I'm not sure how that all plays out.

To be fair, while I don't like or agree with what Kyrie did, I can kind of understand why he did it. The Cavs were set to be his team. They were slowly building their way to being a good team with Kyrie as the face of the franchise.

Then Lebron decided to return to Cleveland and they changed from building for the future to "win now."

Aside from probably tiring of being the little brother, he probably felt a bit like he was pushed to the side as the Cavs began capitulating to every demand Lebron made.

Don't get me wrong, I think that it's pretty shortsighted of him to do this when he's making the finals every year and he's still young enough that the Cavs could have built around him once Lebron left. But I can somewhat understand where he's coming from.

if Kyrie plays defense he can be a "super star"

until he does that- he will be in the 2nd tier of guys--- not up in the LeBron, Durant, Curry, Kawhi, Harden, RW, Davis, Towns, tier.....

hes sitll only 25---- and RW and Curry werent mvp types at 25---- but both at least try and play both sides of the court.

The Celtics defense and front court all of a sudden has huge question marks after losing Crowder and Bradley and not adding any PF or C.

Al Horford is a very skilled big man- but TT and Love eat him alive on the boards.
