Depends on the player....irving is clearly demonstrating his need to be "The Man".......Its not an indictment on Boston, as much as Irving, Hayward is going to be the modern day Larry Bird in terms of how fans react to him

Settle down.

There will never be another Larry Bird.

The Celtics still have the #6 pick from 2014, the #3 pick from 2016 and the #3 pick from 2017. Not to mention a pile of other potential players drafted in the first round the past two years.

Plus another handful of first round picks in the next three years.

I understand that the Brooklyn pick was a prime asset, but saying that one lottery pick in a sea of other picks/players taken with comparable picks is "the key."

when you've continuously botched those picks....and it's the most top heavy draft of them all....yes it's the key.

LOL......Agreed, but Hayward was born to play in Boston.......He will be more popular than anyone that steps in that city during his time

Implying the same isn't the case in Cleveland.

I get that LeBron's shadow is as big as they get among active leaders. But lets not pretend that Kyrie didn't lead the Cavs in usage and get just as many clutch touches as LeBron. IMO, he had every bit of room he could ever want when it comes to on-the-court play.

In this case, it's not about on the court play, it's about "the face of the franchise." Reports were that part of Kyrie's issue was privileges that Lebron got that Kyrie couldn't and felt he deserved.

Don't get me wrong, I HATE HATE HATE giving up that pick, and it shouldn't have been included. I'm just trying to get into Danny's head a little bit and I think it makes sense to him, partially because he overvalues Kyrie. But I also think he has a lot of faith in the picks he's made the last 2 years to be difference makers in 3 years.

Probably. From Boston's perspective, I'd like the trade a lot more if he gave up the Lakers/Kings pick rights.

Cleveland Won, but Boston didnt lose

Thats my take

Yeah, the Celtics got better and the Cavs got more than they really should have been able to considering they weren't exactly dealing from a position of strength.

Danny said Kyrie fits the Celtics' timeline better than IT.

My guess is were looking at 3 years to compete. Kyrie and Hayward still theoretically in their prime, Brown and Tatum coming into their own, and hopefully a collapse from GS and Cle.

Obviously more pieces are likely needed, but Danny has time to figure that out.

Nobody is competing with GS for the time being, to include the CAVS, so I'm fine with this.

^^^this^^^...

as Stone Cold Steve Austin used to say, "that's the bottom line"...

Its been reported here that the Cavs would absolutely do Irving for Porzingas

I think they did far far better here

Neither should've been on the table for such a small upgrade.

Koby Altman deserves some props here.

A lot of GM's thought they could rush in and take advantage of a brand new GM sitting in the middle of shit show.

Altman didn't panic. He waited until everyone realized he wasn't going into rush into something just for the sake of getting it over with.

I was just surprised Boston did nothing to acquire a front court player

question-

if you could sign any of these guys long terms- what order would you choose?

1. Jimmy Butler
2. Paul George
3. Kyrie Irving

?

I'll say this. I'm a little worried about the likely inevitable Cavs-Celtics playoff matchup.

Similar to when LeBron came back to CLE, when I had a little bit of fear for when they played the Heat. There's something about the added pressure and spotlight of facing the recent friend turned enemy - especially when you are the one that's supposed to win.

I think the Cavs are still the better team on paper - but when both teams are that fired up with something personal to prove, the paper sort of goes out the window, and it becomes about who can use the fire to their advantage and who crumbles under the heat of the fire.

Well, Butler is my preference of the three, how long term?

The answer is none of the above because Boston's window is 2-3 years from now. Not right now.

An Danny tried to speed it up and all he did was end it early.
