Terrible trade for both teams. Feel bad for IT though. He was talking about the contract after the season was done because he wanted to win and cocksucker Danny Ainge does this to him. Have fun trying to run a hard-nosed defense with this guy being your superstar. IT obviously has his shortcomings (pun intended) but at least he worked his ass off to offer something.

I.T. did all that work and recruiting for Boston. Turning the team into playoff contenders. Talking about how excited he is to play alongside Hayward and talking playoffs, and they do this. Damn Boston, did you at least have the decency to lubricate before you fucked him in the ass?

Uh....they lost Crowder and Bradley....

Avery , although snubbed in All defensive team voting, is one of the best perimeter defenders in the NBA.

Horford offers little rim protection and they don't have a starting PF.

So, I think my statement is reasonable.
Bradley's a great defender... that's the toughest loss, no doubt. That being said... the C's don't go to having a hole at this position: Smart and Rozier can pick up some of the slack.

Same with Crowder. Loved Crowder... but the C's have Hayward and J Brown to pick up the slack.

They aren't falling down to awful in terms of defensive... they did take a hit, though.

Did Danny ainge get the GM job in Cleveland ?
Even if you don't like the trade from Boston's perspective... the trade isn't that bad.

Kind of interesting how wildly different both sides see this trade, that's why this thread is so long.

Must be a good trade if both sides are mad about it?

Honestly,

I think the people who like this deal from the Celtics side are either:

A: overrating Kyrie
B: underrating the value of the Nets pick.

I totally get that Ainge and Boston fans did not view IT as a core player for their future. That being said, I think Crowder + the Nets pick + a contract would have been more than a fair price for a disgruntled star (not superstar) who was demanding a trade. The Celtics paid 150% of the market price.

While some are saying that this is a price the Celtics could afford to pay, I think those people are totally missing the big picture. The Celtics maybe could afford to pay that price to Indiana or Chicago. They chose not to. Instead, they overpaid their only real competition in the East and bailed the Cavs out of what had been a terrible off season until now.

People said the reason Indiana refused to deal PG to Cleveland or Boston was that they didn't want to send him to a rival. Well, Indiana wasn't a rival to either. Indiana sucks. LeBron may still choose to leave Cleveland next off season, but the odds are a lot greater that he stays now because of this deal. That is a horrific reality that Celtic fans must face.

They literally went from being one of the best defensive teams in the league to what?...a great offensive team now, which they were pretty damn good before. I mean do they have anyone that can play legit defense now?

At least Boston had Crowder and Bradley to slow down Lebron and it really wasnt slowing him down. They literally have nobody to guard Lebron now. Jaylen and Tatum...good luck :laugh3:

Smart is as good as anybody. Better match up with LeBron too because of strength.

I dont know why you help the team you are trying to beat, now I am not saying they didnt get a superstar in the making but IT, Crowder and possibly a future star is a lot and that isnt even the whole deal in my eyes. The Cavs also gain about $6-7 mil off the books for now. If Lebron leaves they cod have a future star with that 2018 pick and go out and get two stars or one star and sign Isaiah. I thought the Cavs were in a horrible position and the C's helped them out. No doubt they are getting the best player in the deal but is it enough to beat Cleveland?...we will see.

Yeah I forgot about him but he is still only 6'4"

I mean they basically lost Bradley, IT, Crowder and got Hayward and Kyrie but the problem is Cleveland got 2 of those 3. Idk hard to determine who wins this trade now but bc of that pick I am leaning Cavs

Jeez... you never heard of Marcus Smart? What an odd post.

Anywho: yes the C's still have guy that can play decent defense in the NBA:

- Marcus Smart - rugged and versatile
- Jaylon Brown - versatile
- Hayward - strong, versatile
- M Morris - versatile
- Al Horford - poor rebounder, but decent individual defender
- Terry Rozier - strong on-ball defender

Versatility is actually a strength for Boston on the defensive end... they have a lot of guys that can switch. Rebounding remains the biggest issue.

Defense?

Lmao...no.

But, he gets buckets.

This is like a whole new Team now.

Ainge overhauled the entire roster of the #1 seed in the East.

#FalseIdols

Yeah, I'm aware that Kyrie is not a defensive wizard, but he is 6'3", not 5'8" and that can't hurt.

I agree no one is gonna stop LeBron... Crowder couldn't stop LeBron, either. LeBron has dominated the C's over the past several years.

Really, really poor job by Boston considering the pressure Cleveland was under because of the Irving trade demand.

It was so incredibly lopsided, it makes me wonder if they know something about Thomas' hip that the rest of us don't.

Irving is an extremely minor upgrade over Thomas. To give up a lock top 5 pick, one of the more league friendly contracts in Crowder and throw in another first round pick (that I have no idea about) makes zero sense unless Thomas is damaged goods.

I don't necessarily disagree with the rest of your post... at least not too bad.

However, I will take issue with the above. If you're in the business of winning championships, Irving is a pretty substantial upgrade over IT.

Why? Because IT is that big of a target and liability on defense.

I loved IT. I rooted for him. I would have rooted for him to the end if he was a career Celtic. But my head always told me that he was not a championship player because of his height.

Most folks around here had no problem saying what I just said during last years playoffs. But now... seems most folks have forgotten about IT's extreme limitations on defense.

(And yes, I'm aware that Irving isn't a good defender either. But he's not the weak link target that IT is because of his height... and that makes all the difference, IMO)

You think Cleveland will offer him the max?

No.
Why is nobody considering that when they say Ainge made a bad deal giving up the Nets #1?
He smartly didn't want to pay I.T. 2000M, and that was part of the cost to eliminate the problem.

Love it for both teams

But from Clevelands perspective, brilliant

Possible #1 next season can make the transition from losing Lebron not a franchise killer

You really think there's ANY CHANCE that Gilbert gives I.T. 200M?
I'm not convinced anyone will to be honest.
He's a 1 year rental (assuming he wants a max) to give the Cavs and LeBron one more crack at the Warriors.
Please don't say that I'm just now hating on the Cavs and I.T., because I have said many times before that Boston would be nuts to offer him a max next summer.

Rumors were they offered NY Irving for Porzingas, they could have never imagined how much better they would actually do
