I'm not gonna jump all over your comment here because you might be right, M... I'll only mention that it would be peculiar if the C's got rid of IT and somehow became worse defensively. That doesn't seem to add up.

C's still have some solid, versatile defenders in Smart, Hayward and J Brown. I don't see "slaughtered" on this front. But they could use more size/rebounding... definitely.
Uh....they lost Crowder and Bradley....

Avery , although snubbed in All defensive team voting, is one of the best perimeter defenders in the NBA.

Horford offers little rim protection and they don't have a starting PF.

So, I think my statement is reasonable.

Yeah, I don't know...

They turned the #1 overall pick this year, Brooklyn's pick next year, Bradley, Crowder, Thomas, Olynyk...

Into

The Lakers pick, Tatum, Morris, Irving, Baynes, Hayward.

That looks like a L to me....unless Thomas is hurt.

I don't think they ever intended to max him.

But, they gave up too much for Kyrie...imo

That pick is the problem and they are going to get slaughtered defensively.

I think both teams are winners in this trade, but I like the Boston side of it better. I think it was their plan all along to trade IT, and they're getting back the best player involved in this trade. It's unknown what spot the Nets' pick will be next year, but if Boston had kept the pick, the chances of drafting a player better than Kyrie would've been very low, IMO.

Statistically it appears to be a wash, Irving is a bit younger and 6" taller so the hope for Celtic fans will be that he can play a bit of defense. We know that Isiah Thomas can't guard me.
Defense?

Lmao...no.

But, he gets buckets.

This is like a whole new Team now.

Ainge overhauled the entire roster of the #1 seed in the East.

Completely agree. No one really knows the health of IT. Is he going to be the same player he was before the injury? I like it for the Celtics.

I guess my judgement is clouded by the fact that I don't think Kyrie is a true # 1 option.

Ditto for Gordon.

Look at the shit deal the Bulls took for Butler.

Unless they are dead set against trading guys to Teams in their conference, why not add a pick with Bradley to get Jimmy too?

Why not go all in, balls to the wall?

Kyrie, Jimmy, Horford , Hayward would have been formidable.

Sans Jimmy? I'm not too sure.

...in fairness, I haven't seen anything that suggests such a deal was available.

But, yeah....

No way should they have maxed the midget.

So, trading for Kyrie was good, I just think the price was way to high.

You think Cleveland will offer him the max?

I'd say its higher than Boston. They'll definitely max him if Lebron leaves.

Honestly,

This is an F for Boston.

Kyrie is the same player as IT. He is better, but not by much and they do the same things. You give up Crowder and the Nets pick for a marginal upgrade? I get that Kyrie is under contract for 2 years, but they always had the option to keep IT.

Sorry, Kyrie simply isn't that much better. This doesn't make Boston any better today.

He's not the same player despite having similar numbers. Kyrie is better. And for all his woes defensively, most of it is a total lack of effort. If he can be coached up to at least giving effort, he can be servicable (like Harden...occasionally). IT will never be that though due to his size. That's why Boston has been reluctant to max him. So you upgraded offensively and potentially defensively if he can be coached (Stevens is hands down the best coach Kyrie has had). That makes them better today and they are set up for the future much better as well. They do make Cleveland better with the addition of Crowder, but Morris on Boston is no slouch and if Tatum is as good as I think he can be along with Brown improving, Boston is right there neck and neck with Cleveland THIS year, which a much better spot than they were last year.

Good point about IT's hip. I assume he'll be okay, but who knows.

Totally agree. Kyrie currently sucks at defense, but he's got room to improve aspects of his game, including defense, whereas IT seems to already be maxed out with regard to how good he can be as a player.

What? It's not that out of the realm of possibility. Harden isn't as bad as the gifs indicate. And Irving, as demonstrated numerous times in the Finals, is just being a lazyass in transition. If he'd simply run back, that'd solve numerous issues. I'm not saying he'd be good, just ok, which is something IT can never be

The problem that Cleveland is having is that Irving publicly demanded a trade. They don't have a ton of leverage. IT and Crowder and the picks that Ainge wants to give up will be the deal. Salary match is the big issue.

This, bit also the Cavs FO is a total shitshow right now

I dont see the upside for cleve...well outside of the potential draft picks. I mean Crowder is decent, but Thomas is short, ball dominant, and you gotta pay him next year.
As for Boston, I dont know, Kyrie is a upgrade, but he pretty much does what Isaiah does

They may want to pay him though, with LeBron leaving they will want some star power to put butts in the seats

Kind of interesting how wildly different both sides see this trade, that's why this thread is so long.

Must be a good trade if both sides are mad about it?

Terrible trade for both teams. Feel bad for IT though. He was talking about the contract after the season was done because he wanted to win and cocksucker Danny Ainge does this to him. Have fun trying to run a hard-nosed defense with this guy being your superstar. IT obviously has his shortcomings (pun intended) but at least he worked his ass off to offer something.

"We want Golden State"

Lmao

I fuckin hope some other damn team comes out of the East. Cavs Ws III was needed, but I'm done with that matchup.

Great Trade for Cleveland (especially if they snatch Wade or Melo or both). Warriors got NO CHANCE if that happens nor does any other team. Thats a crazy stacked ass team
