Wouldn't put it past the Cards front office to put this stupid shit in there and then recant. Which they did. Either way, I think the book on Kyler is still out there. I have much less faith in Kliff and the front office. Just fucking win and shut everyone up!!!

They knew perfectly well the reaction that clause would have. While I doubt it was done to embarrass Murray, it was probably pointed out to some in the media to send him a message, which is mission accomplished as far as Cards management is concerned.

Maybe. But locally, nobody has heard anything about him not studying film at all. He is a smart kid. I think it was a stupid suit, front office thing that backfired. When you are being offered hundreds of millions, just sign.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Cardinals have removed the "independent study" clause from Kyler Murray's contract extension.

In other words, the Cardinals are logging off. This absurd tempest in a teapot, even by 2022's standards, will no longer be allowed to animate the nation's various sports shouting shows beyond Friday. An ill-fated, ill-considered idea, it was also ludicrously ham-handed and unnecessary. Now let's all move on and try to solve the world's problems.

How soon we all forget. 1 year after spending a top 10 pick on Josh Rosen the Cards went all in on Murray and spent the 1st pick in the draft on him. There is no way in hell they're going to admit that was a giant gaff, so unless Murray was a total disaster, which he hasn't been, they had to make this commitment.

One other thing people don't seem to understand is that the QB contract market gets reset annually....it is a next quality guy, in the eye of the beholder, that resets the market.

The deal that really makes me wonder is Clevelands deal with Watson. He's been out for a year, you have no idea if he'll be suspended or how long if he is, there is no way to know if other allegations will come up and if they're more serious. There are other things involved, like giving up on Mayfield, giving up capital, of sorts to acquire him. If something bad happens or comes out of this, the Browns might go on another one of those 2 years without a win kind of runs, and I don't wish that on anybody. I sure as hell hope they know what they're doing.
As you mentioned, AZ also had to give up on Rosen (they just did it sooner). True, no idea how long suspended if he is but still nearly a half decade left on his deal if he is (full 5 years if suspended a season).

No doubt gave up a ton of draft capital.

Yeah not sure why you include the clause if you say you have confidence and a ton of money invested in the kid. Bad look for Arizona, terrible decision and then you second guess your decision. Wow
definitely not a good idea to let fans and media run your team.....though I guess could also argue they realized how dumb it was and corrected it.

Taking the clause out makes it look so much worse... Like throwing a bucket of gas on a bonfire.

The amount of uproar over this clause is funny. It just shows how much we need the season to start.

and it also shows how WEAK the Cardinals ownership actually is... Keep the damn language about studying in the contract! Clearly you as an organization didn't think Murray actually was putting in the time and the contract was signed as is

It’s ridiculous that this got out. Murray knows he needs this or he never would have agreed to it in the first place.
