you are probably right that KT is not a good fit... but thats why i thought NYC would be better, as it is a larger stage...

Has KT ever gotten any of the big Roasters on his show?? like Anthony Jeselneck, Nicki Glazer, or any of that ilk??
Jeff Ross has done it a LOT. Jeselnik did it once, but he thought it was a joke (not in a good way). Burr did it once REAL early, and he HATED the format and called it out as being cruel in the first 15 mins. After that he just checked out and didn’t participate.

yea... it is tough getting names bigger than him... not saying he hasnt done it, Joe Rogan comes out a lot... and he may be hated by many now, but he is still a big name...

but most of the ones i have seen he has had guests like Shane Gillis level of popularity... where tony is at least AS famous if not more(usually more)...

Ross is probably a good guest... he'll roast anything... and this show likes that... only thing about Ross, is that Tony really likes taking ownership of his show(rightfully so) ross was probably more difficult to manage..

Just watched last weeks show. Benjamin was one of the best bucket pulls I've seen in a while. Great jokes, amazing story in the interview. Usually 70 year old former? drug addicts are rambling and incoherent. This guy was hitting tag after tag in his story.

Jordan Peterson tonight.

Not a huge fan that the show is becoming soooo political.

comedy has always been political in political climates... unfortunately with the election coming up, we will get more and more political...

problem with Kill Tony is that the show has always(the new to the show viewer now acts like he knows what he is talking about) strongly leaned right... but that is natural in a show that airs in Texas, and has been endorsed by Joe Rogan, also is in Joe rogan's theatre...

the guests have all been more Conservative.. only liberal thing the show does is shows love for disabilities...

The show was LA- lib in its early days. Tony was a VERY vocal vegan for the first year or 2 of the show. It wasn’t until Trump when Tony started “coming out of the closet”. Moving to Texas just led to him opening the floodgates.

Hans, though, is the worst about it. He has injected a LOT of “I hate Democrats” lines into his sets, but he is a pretty vocal Dem/lib irl. He is just pandering to Tony and the Texas crowd. David has always been conservative, and he has just leaned into it more since the move.

But since the move to Texas, the Lib-comedians are MUCH more rare to make appearances, and the non-comedian guests lean to the right (Tucker and Peterson are extreme examples, of course).

I may agree with the trend of the show as it sits now vs where it used to be, but I prefer the South Park strategy of throwing bombs at both sides and avoiding having a blatant bias represented. But, the counter to that is that NOTHING exists on the right in the genre, so let the unicorn be a unicorn.

Never heard of him, but I guess when you get up to this many episodes you start to run out of guests.

As a left leaning moderate none of his show bothers me politically.

Not sure if I understand what you mean by that there is nothing to the right of the genre.

I enjoy this show. But I did notice that most of the humour is race humour and how we can’t get away with lots of that anymore. But KT crowd loves it always. You make a black joke, the crowd will laugh.

Hell me and you had this debate a few weeks ago when the golden ticket went to the Jewish kid. And then the next week someone made a chicken legs joke and you thought he deserved the golden ticket more.

The entire world would benefit from being able to laugh at itself more. I do think some of Kill Tony is mean spirited, but the nature of the show is "everyone gets theirs" so i don't see racism

He is a phycologist (psychiatrist?) professor from Canada who is against the establishment forcing “proper” pronoun use (over simplification, but anyway). He is a darling of the right, but the antichrist of the left. He has no ties to comedy.

If I inferred it was racist. I didn’t mean that. All I was trying to say that the hat pulls standup bits are overwhelmingly black jokes. Which I think gets the best laughs with the KT live audiences. But Tony and the guests can weed out the cheap laughs pretty decently.

Rogan talks about a person (profession, not an individual person) that existed in many NA cultures (I think it was NA, at least) called the “Sacred Clown”. This was basically a jester. This person was able to say ANYTHING. The idea was that if a topic was beyond humor, that it was based in BS.

Modern stand up SHOULD have this thought process applied. This is why Rogan doesn’t allow phones into his club. It allows comics to say what they want without it leaking out, out of context. And apparently, some of the sets that occur on those stages are BRUTAL.

TBF, a lot of YOUNG comics just for shock over substance. They tell street jokes and racist jokes because they just aren’t good enough to tell REAL jokes. Real comics who know open mics understand this, and they try to hear the nugget that is living underneath the schleppy noice of racism or hackery.

Definitely true. But it doesn’t help that the crowd eats it up.

The KT crowd is not comics. KT crowds are not even normal comedy show crowds. The KT crowd now is specific KT tourists. They are sycophants.

True. Said this earlier in this thread that KT crowd seems like the low of the low.

I wonder if there is a way to fix this. Because a stupid crowd is not good for comedy. And cheap laughs hurt the comedians. Especially when they don’t laugh when they should.
