You really think the Knicks will fire Fisher when they are playing fairly well?

They aren't playing "fairly well" because of him.....They're winning despite of him and his all too frequent late game blunders.
If Phil really wants this team to grow/reach the next level....then he has to bite the bullet on his buddy and bring in a competent X's & O's guy....(ie: Thibs, Brooks)

I was going to comment that those guys wouldn't run the triangle ... but according to Kobe -- neither do the Knicks today.

I was going to comment that those guys wouldn't run the triangle ... but according to Kobe -- neither do the Knicks today.

A lot of the knicks version of the triangle depends on who their opponent is / and what the matchups are on the floor in any given part of the game....plus, lots of teams pre scout and prepare defensively....so in essence I think they aren't implementing it as much lately like they were in the past.

The Rockets simply are undisciplined. From a talent perspective, they're up there with anyone else in the league. McHale is accountable for the way his team has performed.

That being said, the Rockets have their own internal problems on the roster. They don't have a leader that's going to hold his teammates accountable. When your best player only plays one side of the floor, who's gonna tell him to step it up? And it's not like Harden is just unable to guard, he's simply just uninterested in doing so.

Then you have to rest Howard every other game because fear of injury, that doesn't do much for continuity. Lawson was their big splash, but what the Rockets forget is that he needs the ball in his hands to be productive. They put him in as a started but removed their best perimeter defender in Beverly and giving him back up minutes.

Right now the Rockets are a mess. They need a new voice that will challenge the team to compete. One change I would expect to be made would be to bring Lawson off the bench and put Beverly back in the starting lineup.

If it doesn't get better, then you go after the GM next. The bottom line is, McHale was given a HECK of a lot of talent in Houston. They haven't lived up to the hype. Whether it was poor play, or injuries, or a mixture of both, McHale doesn't seem to be the guy to put them over the hump. They've got multi year multi million dollar contracts wrapped up in these high end athletes, and they really do suck this year so far. You can't cut the players, so why not get a new coach?

IMO, it's not so much a player problem as it is a lack of direction and motivation problem. That comes from the coach. A new coach may be able to come in and give them the right direction and motivation.

McHale improved this teams in wins every year. I just feel like teams are not giving some coaches enough time to build a team and take th emto the next level. Some teams think it only takes a few years to become a championship team and if they don't, then they fire the coach. Now, I understand if the coach isn't showing any improvments, but McHale improved this team every year. But I guess, lets panic over 11 games.

Honestly, mostly about the last 11 games, although I've felt the same way about Harden for the last few years.

What I said mostly pertains to the discipline of the team and accountability. The biggest area where this shows is on the defensive end. Houston still has no problem putting points on the board. The difference between this years Rockets and last years Rockets is on defense. Last year they were 6th in defensive efficiency. This year they're 29th out of 30.

He looked pretty bad in his last press conference. I almost felt like he was saying he wasn't sure how to motivate the players -- that he thought it might be time for a change.

Kevin was never much of an X & O guy.

JVG/Thibs would be OK, I think. I think the players would know that they better show effort for the next coach -- or player changes are next. (except for Beard & probably DH12 -- they aren't going anyplace)

He had no coaching experience.....he was Phil's guy and is learning on the job. I seriously doubt Phil isd going to fire him just after 2 seasons on the job. Look at Jason Kidd, no experience and a little on the job coaching and he's doing alright.

What distinguishes Kidd from Fisher is JK's ability to communicate with his players, and how he gets them to buy in to his style and philosophy..plus he was already a de facto coach on the floor at the tail end of his playing career. I don't see that as a strong attribute w/ Fisher, or that happening with the Knicks.
I think Phil's leash on him is shorter than you think.
These loyalties only go so far.
We shall see.

Seems a bit early in the season to start firing coaches unless you're the Sixers, but they really do have way too much talent to have a 4-7 record. Guess it was called for, though I'm not sure this will really change things unless they get a solid coach who can coach the egos of everyone on the team...

Me being a Lakers fan has nothing to do with it.....I'm rational, not a blind homer. So Fisher can't communicate? They aren't buying into what Fisher's selling? I haven't heard any reports of a divided locker-room....

I think Phil is tethered to Fisher's success or failure. I just don't see him firing Fisher......not 2 seasons in. He'll sink or swim with Fish and if he sinks......he'll retire.

Phil is gonna retire anyway, after this or next year regardless...and I'll just leave you to ponder this...
He's definitely not going to want to retire while leaving a losing product on the floor....plus he wouldn't be severing his "ties" with Fisher, as he'd probably get bumped up to the front office in some capacity when a better coach is hired. Whether Fisher accepts it is up to him and remains to be seen.
