Just because he wants to go to LA, doesn't mean he's going to be in LA. I don't know why some are penciling him on the Lakers this upcoming season. He's still under contract for 1 more year, and Pop may take a lesser deal just to send Kawhi out East.

Go ahead, trade him out East. Lakers can wait another year. Sign one free agent this year (or none) and sign some more one year deals to hold over that cap space. Get Randle signed, try for another gem in the draft, etc. Guys like Klay and Jimmy Butler could be available, Lebron and George could play out their remaining year (or go elsewhere if they wish), lots of options.

Sure, that's great if all goes well. But for the general Lakers fan, at some point, the whole "next offseason" gets a bit old.

The only reason for them to even consider doing that is if he signs an extension or agrees to do so next year, but it would be a Kangz thing to do. Then the Spurs draft Luka who leads them to multiple titles and the rest is sad history. I still want Kawhi on the Kings, but not for 1 year.

Kawhi quietly goes about his business. Even though the Spurs doctors clearly thought Kawhi should have been playing, the team handled it wrong. There are some personalities who might have responded differently, but for an extreme introvert with no interest in speaking to media to see his name dragged through the mud by his own teammates and coaches had to feel like utter betrayal.

I don't care how much money they offer, I am not working for somebody who treats me like that.

I will say this, the one thing you don’t do to an introvert is light them up in public.
