I too was surprised that it has been eleven years since a Niner QB has thrown 20 or more TD's in a season. Niners were terrible until Harbaugh arrived and they had lousy coaches and OC like Nolan, Singletary and Jimmy Raye. Not exactly offensive minded.

Injuries and benchings led to that. Alex Smith was on pace to get 27 one year and 23 one year but then was either benched or injured or started too late. He had 18 touchdowns after he replaced Shaun Hill on the eighth game of the season. I know that doesn't make us feel any better. And I know that doesn't make Alex any better than he was. Just that we missed for multiple reasons, including what you listed.

In 15 games. Many more attempts, though. I like that he is passing more. I want Kaepernick to pass more. I feel that quarterbacks can be criticized for their overall numbers, when that's deeply impacted by how many times they have. Now, I do expect the yards per attempt to go up as well as the completion percentage. But in general I think that the number should go up in anyway. The attempts for Kaepernick should go up and the YPA should stay about the same. His completion percentage will go up as he gets more familiar with the offense, the receivers are better, and the system gets going.

Saw your edited post. Actually in that five touchdown game most of then were long handoffs. But as far as the other 18 touchdowns, most of them were deeper or red zone passes.

True. I just finished watching a replay of yesterday's game and I'm still stunned at how many wide open receivers kaepernick does not see. Many of them right in front of him.

The play where he threw it out of bounds over Boldin with an open Crabtree right in front of him was such a bad decision. Makes me pull me hair out. But then he makes a play like strike to Boldin before the Patton catch.

That was stunningly bad. How could he have missed Crabtree wide open right in front of him? Davis was also wide open on the play.

21 isnt great and I expect Kaep to get in the 30's next year
