Jurrell Casey traded from Tenn to Den for a 7th

Casey has been one of my favorite non-Bronco players for a long time. I have always loved his game and now to get to see him destroy opponents in a Broncos' uniform is just incredible.

Also nice to see the Broncos have him locked in for 3-years at I would consider fair compensation for what he brings to the table. He is 30 but for DL they have shown they can play at a pretty high level into their mid-30's so not worried about a huge drop off at this point. Especially considering he hasn't had much of an injury history.

Three things that really stick out to me with this deal...

1) He is a perfect fit in what Fangio likes to do with his DL of using them on a lot of stunts and needing athletic guys that can even when going around the edge every once in a while. Throw in his incredible strength to really collapse the pocket. That is something the Broncos just haven't had here for a while.

2) The Comp pick formula. The Broncos got 3 picks this past year and because of that have had that extra draft capital to make deals like this and still feel good about their draft value on the picks remaining. So next year at least from my basic understanding of the draft pick formula is the Broncos will be in line for one for Harris (Glasgow cancels out Connor McGovern). My guess is he will bring a 4th or 5th round pick in the formula. They also should receive one for Shelby Harris and possibly Derek Wolfe when all is said and done and maybe one for Will Parks. So could end up with 4 extra picks in next year's draft plus the 7th they just traded for Andy Janovich.

3) Casey should be a great locker room guy from everything I've heard and gives the Broncos a nice mentor for some younger DL players like Jones. Both were 3rd round picks and both have a great first step that allows them to be very disruptive so anything that can help develop Jones into a top tier DL player is something I will get behind.

He was talking to New England but I can't see them over paying to get him.

Dre'Mont Jones is going to be a good in house plug and play guy next year. I expect a nice year out of him. Wolfe would be nice on a good contract.

I think we should sign a vet to be the other DE opposite Jones. Wolfe seems like the obvious choice. Anyone else we should keep any eye on?

I adore Dre'Mont Jones... Don't sleep on him playing a huge role this year. We need some depth on the DL for sure.

He was the one guy this past draft that Vic Fangio went to bat for with Elway. So yes Fangio has a lot more invested in seeing Jones succeed than any of the other coaches and is a big reason the Broncos haven't spent more on the DL so far because they expect him to be huge this year.

I really liked this pick at the time. Not really a guy I ever really considered for us, but when I saw his name pop up on the board my cheese puffs bounced a bit. At OSU he stood out to me most games, there were times when he did vanish and if he can put it together in a consistent bases this one could be pretty solid. That 93 reminds me of Trevor Pryce. Miss that guy!

Don't forget about DeMarcus Walker either. He was showing flashes last year with Fangio before his injury sidelined him essentially for the rest of the season. Was very unfortunate for him because he has really come around right before his injury.

I still have faith in DeMarcus Walker. Another classic case of a guy who underperformed his draft slot, but sacrificed himself for every coach's whim and he had plenty of coaches.

An advantage of having Fangio as HC - is he really does puts guys in position to play to the best of their talents. Anyway you can improve your roster - draft - FA - UDFA - development or creative use is a force multiplier. I expect Fangio to get a plus sized value out of Walker.

I think the question is do you want to count on Walker to be your starter, and for me the answer is no. To me he is in the same boat as Hamilton. I have faith that he can be a productive starter in this league, but hasn't shown that consistently enough to count on them.

What I love is the fact the man knows some of the history of the Broncos' defense. Talked about the Orange Crush in one of his interviews.
